Shit build quality. Rotten as dogs. Crap handling. Completely gutless
especially considering the engine size. Think under 200BHP from a 5.7
Litre.

You may say that sir and thats all true but you can get a flashy red light
to go back and forth and hum the knightrider theme lol. Just having a joke I
saw it on ebay while looking at some American cars pontiacs, buicks, camaro,
dorvette, all types . When I was a lot younger I always fancied an
american car but looking at them and thinking about driving them around
would probably make me look like a knob, I have this nagging thing in my
head to not do this and buy one but I would love one. I'll go with my first
sense and avoid. Wonder what insurance is like on some of em.

A nice thought.

GreasyFingers (greasy (AT) fingers (DOT) com) gurgled happily, sounding much like
they were saying :

There's American cars, and there's American cars.

A '53 Cadillac, proper musclecar, an early 'stang, a Studebaker, an Olds
Toronado or a Hudson Hornet all fall into a very different category to an
'89 Trans-Am...

Aye, but that's before you get Turbo Boost fitted - then it can jump
over trucks!

Good point, well made. With a few exceptions, you can add the Corvette to
the Trans-Am's end of the list.

I've had a lot of cheap Yank crap over the years. Some utter shite, some
less shite and some merely mediocre. All strangely enjoyable though. If you
drive them with the mindset of "Well, it's good on the motorway if nothing
else" they're strangely endearing. My '73 Chevy Malibu was probably the best
car I've ever had for driving long, boring, motorway distances in. V8
burbling away at 2000 rpm, 70 mph set on the cruise control, lounging on the
stupid bench seat listening to oldies on the AM only radio!. [1]

The limos were in their element on a long motorway run, that's the only time
they're anywhere near decent to drive. 200 mile runs in a limo are a pretty
good way to spend a day even when you drive the bloody things. Partition up,
aircon on, cruise set to 70 and forget about everything for a couple of
hours. This might just be because 90% of long distance limo jobs are at
night and the motorways are quiet, but there aren't many european cars that
are as good at long runs. 20 mpg is just about possible as well.

[1] Normally some weird German or Belgian station whenever Virgin was having
another "bad reception" day.
