It's some sort of flap in the inlet system that closes up a valve at slow idle. I don't know how much good it does but the badges annoy me too! Alan 16v head, but 8 runners in the intake manifold. a set of 4 butterflies under ECU control one per pot. At low speed butterflies shut so the engine is effectively an 8 valver. Good torque and a clean burn. Over certain speed butterflies open and it sorta behaves like a peaky 16valver, only it doesnt cos the valves are stupidly small and they dont breath particularly well even then. Reasonable power output for the size though. So the same technology as a mk1 MR2. But 20+ years late! |
