4x4 drivers pay a lot more than you do - they have a right .

Or are you offering to pay for the amount of lost revenue if all 4x4
drivers change cars and start driving a fiat panda ? .

Old Smelly Fart (Old Smelly Fart <me (AT) privacy (DOT) net>) gurgled happily,
sounding much like they were saying:

I doubt it.

He's also talking out of his arse about 4x4 drivers not caring about the
environment.

It's the people who buy new cars every few years who're fucking the
environment, but they're putting money in the governments pocket so they
don't get shit about it. 4x4 drivers put more money in, but get more
grief out.

P.S. It's been proven on many occasions that a Land Rover / Jeep
Cherokee / Land Cruiser are very often the kindest vehicles to the
environment that exist. Mainly because they last 20-30 years on average
and are maintained properly. Not many parts are wasted, they tend to be
used on other vehicles once one dies. Land + Range Rovers have aluminium
bodies so are easily recycled once their end of life period is reached,
and most of the petrol engined ones are converted to run on
environmentally friendly LPG when they're a few years old.

As most of the pollution involving vehicles is during the actual making
and final disposal of said vehicles, keeping an old Land Rover on the
road is far more environmentally friendly than driving something like a
Toyota Pious. A V8 Range Rover is far kinder to the environment than any
diesel powered vehicle.

Am I mad for wanting to get a 109 petrol to restore and fit disc front
brakes, aftermarket injection and LPG then?

It probably depends on where you want to stick the aftermarket injection.

Er - injectors on a manifold and ECU somewhere it won't get wet.

Just need to mount a crank sensor and if it is more modern kit a cam sensor,
I know people who have built Megasquirt kits.

Pah, that's no good. The turb' needs a few little jobs. Start small,
work your way down to a 110 from it :-p

Partly thinking of future use, I have large comfy saloon which goes quite
well, handles quite well and fits the family in. Want something tonka toyish
for a bit of off roading, and possibly for the children to use in 7 -10
years.

As to main car, no idea what to replace it with - had something similar for
last 5 cars. What can you get for largish family car with RWD, plenty of
room, good to drive and doesn't cost the earth.
