Thaught I'd look to see what tonights subject was at the beginning of the
prog, otherwise I would have missed it myself.
3 young drivers, a girl and 2 guys, who all thaught they were good drivers
only a few months after they'd passed their test, were tested for awareness,
night driving on country lanes, dual carriagway driving, and skid control.
Tester was an ex police driving instructor.

Quite amusing that the one driver who really thaught he knew it all, and had
nothing to learn, was the only one who failed, but they all had a lot to
learn.

The girl driving a Ka, couldn't even operate the dip switch properly. Kept
switching the h/lights off altogether when she tried to dip the lights, and
a head camera monitoring her eye movements, found she virtually had tunnel
vision, in as much as most of the time she was only watching what was
happening immediately in front of her, often missing things happening on
either side.
Mike.

Nuts missed it to.

"Drivers with little experience are involved in more accidents."
"Drivers who have had a licence less than a year think they're driving
gods".

That's the programme summed up.

That's the programme summed up.

Most people who have just passed their driving test think they are now
qualified drivers .

What should be rammed into them is the fact they have only proved they
have enough experience to show they have the basic and minimum amount
driving skills need to pass the government test .

I'd say most drivers only really start to attain serious clue after 2
years driving experience as it can take some drivers that long in order
to learn how to read and road and to antisipate what other drivers might
or might not do .

Even then , Its not every driver who wants to learn and teach themselves
how to read the road as their head is in the clouds and the one and only
thing they care about or know is to brake if theres something right in
front of them thats stopping them from driving forward [1] .

[1] probably one of the few times they look left or right :-)
