Default Rust advice on newish Sharan - 12-17-2003 , 07:21 AM

Hi guys 'n' gals,

Friend of mine has a V plate, (Nov 99), VW Sharan. It's done 60K odd
miles.

Recently, he discovered some rust spots on one of the rear doors. Took
it into the local VW dealer as he thought it would be covered under
warranty.

They've had a look and have just said that the car appears to have had
some major work body work done to the rear - which may I suppose is
why these rust spots have started appearing.

He bought it from one of the car supermarkets around 1 year ago and
the servicing/paperworks did not mention any bodywork/repairs of this
kind. The car has had one previous owner.

Where does he stand with this?

Will he have to fork out from his own pocket or can he go back to the
Car Supermarket as it looks like it won't be covered under warranty?

Thanks for any advice,

RodC

I imagine he's stuck with it as I don't suppose the Car Supermarket
warranty will cover it and VW will say it's a non-approved repair and
void their bodywork warranty.

Probably best to sell it.

Where are we going and why am I in this handbasket?

A VW that new shouldn't rust full stop so as you mention it's been
damaged and not repaired properly.

I'd still go back to the Car Supermarket as they probably chucked the
paperwork for the repair away...
