Default Stickers On Car Rear Windows - 09-07-2009 , 06:19 PM

Is there a ruling about the number of things you can have stuck on a
car's rear window?
I was sitting in a queue of traffic today and a smallish car in front
had a male and a females name below the window but on the window
itself they had about 6 stickers saying different things and also a
small teddy hanging there .

Here's a clue as to the minimum amount of rear window space required by
law... Have you ever seen the back of a van?

No.
Thank you .A sensible answer at last but I'll bet the Traffic Cops
could think of something if they put their mind to it .

Pretty soon the police will be given the power to put 3 points on your
license and fine you on the spot for any reason:

Not for "any reason". For careless driving offences.

Which, in my book, are a fairly big deal. Not something to shrug and
laugh off.

ITYM "Will be given the power to offer you an FPN, which you can refuse
and go to court instead" - so no different to normal, apart from you get
the opportunity to say "Yup, very sorry" and get off lightly.

I'm really not so sure that's a good idea for careless driving.

If the policeman says stickers in your window, or a 'bad attitude' is
careless driving then its careless driving. In practice, who is going to
argue, when its your word against theirs in court?

That's very naive. IME policemen are not angels and many are just there for
the power trip, and if they can screw you over, they will.

It's not. There'll be this little thing called "evidence" required.

If they say that you're being nicked for careless driving because of
stickers in your car window (like I said earlier - ever seen a van?),
they're going to be required to produce photographic evidence. Case
dismissed. Always assuming the CPS don't slap it down before it gets that
far.

Mmm. You sound like you've got an axe to grind.
Been nicked a few times, have you? Not realised yet that it's your
attitude which is the difference between a bollocking and a ticket?

Yes, but you've already been convicted and fined by the policeman who is
judge and jury, no evidence required.

No, I've only had 3pts for speeding, but yes I do have an axe to grind.
There is no way I could have doing the speed that the mobile camera said (my
GPS was nowhere near it and my passenger agreed), yet how do I appeal
against that? Who is a jury going to believe? A so-called 'calibrated' speed
gun complete with 'certificate' or my word. Yes, I could cite various TV
documentaries showing how they move to gun while measuring to provide an
increased reading, but again its rarely worth the risk of losing an appeal
and most people will just accept the 3 points and get on with their lives.

I've always been polite, but your statement demonstrates my point, that some
of them are on a power trip.

On other occasions when I have been stopped randomly I usually get the
impression that, to the police you're guilty until proven innocent.

Can we just take all the arguments as read, and skip to the part where
you admit that you can't read, and that you don't understand the concept
of accepting an FPN _as a voluntary alternative to a prosecution_? It's
just that it gets very tedious going over it repeatedly.

Alan! You've morphed!

Clue: The mobile camera isn't even operated by "policemen".

You could, yes.

Then you could sit back and watch whilst you get laughed at, since you
clearly don't understand the basics of what a mobile camera is or how
it's used.

That's because you didn't get "stopped randomly" - you got chosen to be
stopped for some reason which made you and your car stand out from the
rest of the traffic.
