Your own policy should cover you against theft.

Even when you willingly handed the keys to the thief?

May depend on the policy. But no insurance company
is going to offer cover to a thief to recompense the
rightful owner of the stolen property.

When demoing cars in the motor trade: I drive the motor first, when we swap
over I take keys out and only hand them to the driver when I'm in the car.
I don't get out of the car until the driver hands me the keys.
Good idea - I guess if you got out and they drove off it could be
described as deception or wilfully allowing them to drive it away, but
if they had to physically push/kick you out before driving off it
would be a different matter.
