I can't find my licence and need to do a producer; what will happen?

There is a possibly you will go to court. I could be wrong but if
my memory serves me right, the actual offence would be:

*Failing to produce documents within seven days*

When you do go to court, if you still can't produce your license
then you are additionally charged and found guilty of driving
without a license.

Think that's how it works.

I don't think the last is true. After all, the person *is*
licenced and *is* qualified to drive, and there will be records
to prove it. They simply can't produce the licence itself, which
if it is an offence at all, is a very minor one.

I don't know for certain, but my feeling is that at the police
station he'll be given further time to either find it, or apply
for a replacement, but he will still be expected to produce the
new one or the original within a reasonable time.

I'm not getting onto any moral soapbox... but... I don't see why he can't
send his licence back - its not as if he is being asked to produce it in
person or is he? That said, although he is rarely in the UK why should he
get off with what the other mere mortals in this country have to do on a
daily basis. If he needs the licence that badly he should have taken more
care. It also means that he is producing his UK issued licence to the
French, German (et al) authorities who are unaware that it may contain road
traffic convictions..surely deceit???
