Default Where can I find performance stats on second hand models - 02-15-2007 , 09:28 AM

What car? publishes all sorts of useful stuff about fuel consumption, 0-60
acceleration, tax band etc for current models.

However I'm looking to buy second hand maybe up to 5 years old (probably a
VW Golf)

Is there a resource that would have the equivalent performance data for
these oldser models (either a web site or a readily available mag)

Thx

Chris

Possibly worth looking at Dervy's datasheet - www.dervman.com, go to non-ka,
and look for the datasheet. It's quite out of date now, but should do the
5yo stuff.

cheers,
clive

They're all a bit shit apart from the MK5 GTi.

MkIV GT TDIs are OK, though.

The only diesel powered things I like are TRATTORS.

Mk4 Golf's suffer from some very common problems:-

Seized windscreen wiper linkages - £32 to replace or an hour's labour to fix
MAF problems - about £75 + vat for the part
Lambda sensors - £84 + vat for the parts (my V6 has 4 - had to replace two
front ones before the cat)
Temperature sensor - £30
Plastic regulator clips on electric windows break resulting in the glass
falling into the door
Door lock modules suffer from dry solder joints resulting in the ECU not
detecting when a door is open/closed (results in courtesy lights not working
for that door)
Rear wash wipe issues

Other than that, quite nice cars. Quite a comfortable ride, suspension is
very soft (even on the V6). TDI's can be modified to keep up with R32's and
still average close to 40 mpg.

If performance is your thing, the V6 keeps up with most things on the road,
although the economy is crap.
