I was with them for insurance, arranged via the AA, for years as I
believed
their ads about the AA finding the cheapest insurance. It was only 2
years
ago when I queried a renewal quote of nearly £900 for my 1998 Fiat Brava,
up
from just under £600 the previous year despite no accidents, that I
discovered they only choose the lowest quote from about 12 companies on a
list. When I queried the AA boy on the phone about this he got really
shitty
IMPO and I put the phone down on him, rang around a few companies and all
quoted me about £300 - £350.

I figured when those ads that say they'll ring round everyone for you that
they wouldn't compare every single one, just those that they have
commission
links with.

I was just about to renew my car insurance with Direct Line, made mention
of
this to a colleague, just out of general conversation before I did it, and
they recommended Eagle Star (now Zurich) as we'd get 30% off due to being
civil servants, so I didn't make a call to Direct Line and got a quote
online
that evening. It's something like 260-270 instead of 350 now

Thanks to a lorry thundering past me on the other side of the road a
stone was thrown up and chipped my windscreen.

Wanker....

Uncalled for, IMO.

Bollocks...of course it is. I get sick of the unrequired
sensationailsm. "Ooh if we use the word 'thundering' it makes them look
bad and everyone will agree with my point of view"

True

Then it WAS justified.

They have a speed limiter that restricts

then stay at home, lock the doors and shut the curtains.

Oh, and the problem wasn't the lorry..it was the fucking Highways
Agency.

The Highways Agency is responsible for every stone on the road?

Looking at the lack of clearing up after resurfacing..yes.

A quick Google reveals why I killfiled a prat like you beforehand.

You ranted on about being on the sick, although you were probably about as
sick as the Miller bloke in Eastenders, and given the ranting you did in
usenet you'd clearly run out of your brain medicine.

This was also a good one: http://tinyurl.com/6mqve

Actually, I don't think I will killfile you. It's more fun to watch an odious
little creep like you explode.

And, FYI, when the lorry went past, it made a sound like thunder. That's why I
said "thundering". You really are a bit thick, aren't you?

Apparently they want us working until 70 because people live about 7 years
longer now than they used to. Erm, no thanks, I think I'd rather have all
those 7 years to myself. I think I'll have earned it by the time I get to 65.

Dom Robinson (google (AT) dvdfever (DOT) co.uk) gurgled happily, sounding much like
they were saying :

Ta for that. Did you ring them first before getting the windscreen
sorted, or do it first and them claim it back later? It's just that I
want to get it looked at first and if they can sort it there and then
I'll let them get on with it to save time.

Ring the glass company, and tell 'em who you're insured with - take the
paperwork in - you won't get a bill.

Just got back and there's a blob of the stuff on the screen where they did the
job but the stone made an almighty* crack when it hit it, and other than
replacing the screen I don't know what could be done about the lines coming
off it. If I can't change it then I'll accept it as one of life's "shit
happens".

I guess it'd be easier if I took some pics, but could they really be made
invisible? And if I sit in my car looking up at the screen taking still shots
with my camcorder, the neighbours across the road will think I'm filming them
in their bedroom

Thanks very much for everyone's help (I won't say "except Conor" since he
didn't help).

(* I bet Conor will tell me off for using a word like 'almighty' as a
descriptive term

Nope: You've developed a knee-jerk reaction to anything that mentions
road haulage in anything other than a totally complimentary manner.
That you've managed to take offence at the word 'thundering' proves the
point.

So - you don't like free speech? I consider you a bit of an idiot after
reading the above posts, but I don't "kill file" because I may miss a tiny
nugget of something. You act like a playground bully because you can,
because the chance of one of us actually meeting you in person is very
remote. I hate people who hide like that, little wimps in the security of
their own keyboard. Wanker.
Conor can say what he likes - this is usenet - if you can't put up with it,
put your PC in the box it came in and return it to the seller with a wee
note saying, "I'm too stupid to use one".
After you've done that, take a flying fuck through a rolling doughnut. ARSE.

I beg to differ. If you are inside a building near a road and one passes
by, "thunder" is a good description of the sound and feel.
