Believe it or not, the box was the first thing that went in mine. :-) I

The worst car I've ever driven was a Volvo 240.

Its performance would be best described as arthritic.

Mine was fairly athletic, but was tail happy, so much so, my wife managed
to do a 180 exiting a roundabout and rolled it. Nothing broke, mind you.

Id be interested why some of the cars mentioned were so bad - isnt the
robin reliant a distinctive classic now for example....
It's easy to come up with a list of 10 pictures and no text whatsoever
to support a dubious claim. Furthermore I do not understand the need
to come up with such a list, other than to sell books. Pointless
exercise.

Austin Princess ?
The Ambassador was meant to be much better, it wasn't. Which is why I picked
it. I dislike hype..

What was so bad about the Mk2 Astra btw ?
For me the Mk2 Astra perfectly symbolises my dislike of mediocre cars. Some
brilliant engines, granted, but the steering, ride, brakes, handling,
interior and virtually everything about them was just there to do its job
and provided no enjoyment at all whilst doing nothing particularly well.

I know the Mk5 Escort was just as mediocre but the Escort could be bought in
a spec that was actually excellent for a couple of years - The '91-'93
Escort RS2000 was a superb car with excellent handling and decent ride
quality in a car that was good at everything it was meant to be good at, not
as quick as the fastest Astras but much more fun to drive and better looking
than the Astra.

I don't like many FWD Vauxhalls though, Calibras are ok on the motorway, and
the Nova GSi could occasionally be a giggle, but whenever I'm looking for
something to drive about for a couple of months I never think "Oooh, a
Vectra" whereas I will happily use a Mondeo and enjoy doing so.

The *Reliant Robin* - to give it its correct name, was never a good thing.
The engines were suprisingly tuneable though.

Maestros were awful, with the exception of the MG 2.0 EFi which wasn't that
bad to drive, just awful to look at.

I'm clueless as to why the Classic Capri is in there, ok, not the best car
in the world, but no worse than average for the time.

What was wrong with the Fiero? Hardly seems in the same league as far
as "bad".

That site dealing with european based made cars.
While in the states, anyone could easily come up with a list of the 50 worst
cars to drive.
To start off with, the "Edsel".
On the top 10 would be the "Corvair" and somewhere on the list, the
"Crosley".
What? You never heard of the Crosley? It was made in Cincinnati Ohio for a
number of years. As my dad would say, "The joke was, the engine was so small
you could work on it while holding it on your lap!".
The original uh laptop?
I actually saw one and the guy was showing it off to gawkers at the store.
How about the "Kaiser Manhattan"?
Now try getting a part for one of them. Including an engine part.

Spontaneous combustion, for one thing... only the last year or two of
the Fiero had all the bugs worked out, in typical GM fashion.

Obviously you've never had any of those cars, AFAIK the Edsel was pretty
typical Ford hardware. The Corvair has something of a following, so
there's an enthusiast base to draw from, and AFAIR the Kaiser used a
standard Continental engine. The only one that might be difficult to
keep going would be the Crosley, which was a bit of a POS at least with
the sheetmetal engine.

The fiero story is rather sad... the end car is the one the engineering
types wanted to build in the first place. GM's culture put the bugs in
it by trying to make it on the cheap amung other things... like the
manager who go paid on the number of connecting rods he got out the door
instead of the number of good connecting rods...
