Default Zetec or LX - 01-30-2004 , 04:42 PM

Is there much between the Ford Focus 1.6 models : LX and Zetec, in
terms of handling ?
Considering buying one, would prefer the Zetec for performance, but
1.8 models seem far more common than 1.6 (lower petrol consumption,
lower insurance grp), and LXs are easier found than Zetecs. Zetecs
with A/C even rarer, so all in all, I seem to have set myself up for a
slog.
Any views ?

The zetec is supposed to have a more sporty ride but to be honest, I
throw my LX about a fair bit and I've not experienced a situation
where the car has reached its limits before I have.

Engine wise, there is no difference.

The Zetec is meant to have a 10% stiffer set up than the CL / LX and most
are, look for yellow tape on the front springs. This isnt the definitive
check as some have it, some dont, and some Zetecs ford seemed to have run
out of the stiffer springs and so fitted the standard ones! Ghia springs
however are softer. Slightly.

Make sure you find a Zetec with the climate pack- they are worth alot less
without when you come to sell on...

Sounds like your cat is blocked

What I said is that there is no difference in engines of the same size
whether its in a zetec or LX.

At a glance it seems fine. The price may be a little pricey for a T
plater but you do have the aircon and ABS which were non standard. The
ABS/Traction control is something that rarely gets used but last week in
the few days of artic conditions, I was glad I had it.

The only thing you might want to upgrade is the radio/cassette. You can
pick up a Ford 6000 CD unit which will slot right in for around £100
from ebay. You might want to invest in the remote control stalk that the
LX comes with as it is very handy.

The mileage is very low for its age. If its only had one owner then it
may be fine but if its had several owners then I may be a little
suspicious. Its reasonable that a single owner might not use it a lot
but the chances of several owners each not using it a lot is fairly low.

Or a 7000 with boot CD changer, not especially rare either.

The remote control stalk is a bit like aircon, once you've had one, you won't
want to go back to doing without.

AstraVanMan (FuckOff (AT) WithThanks (DOT) com) gurgled happily, sounding much like
they were saying :

easy to take apart to retrieve a CD with a white label that
wasn't very well put on that managed to get stuck, should the situation
arise.
Would that be the voice of experience speaking?

Or if you can find one, get a 6006e for around £150. Brilliant little unit,
and easy to take apart to retrieve a CD with a white label that wasn't very
well put on that managed to get stuck, should the situation arise.
