Default All Star "RPG" - 05-19-2007 , 03:20 AM

Since I keep feeling like the weekend's not quite right unless I'm "picking"
something, I'll throw in a prediction that the "vote for Kenny" campaign
worked and Kenny Wallace will be in the race. (Yeah, it has a "gimme"
flavor, but it makes me feel like I've done what I'm sposed to.....)

This prediction cost nothing, and is worth every penny of the price.....and
is earth-friendly, being made entirely of recycled electrons.

As you have sown, so shall you receive--win, lose, or draw. :-P

OK, I'll RPG a few guesses too (altho not about the vote, since
I've paid exactly zero attention to what's going on there):

1) the top three finishers will include a Chevy, a Ford, and
a Dodge.

2) Jarrett will be last, and will park the car before the end
of the event.

3) Gilliland will win the Open.

4) Mikey will not be last in the Open.

Nope - solid Chevies. I had Kenseth and Busch in mind, here, but
a wreck took Busch out of the picture, and a pit-road mistake took
Kenseth out of contention (which is a real rarity, it's very unusual
for Kenseth to make a mistake of concentration like that).

Never remotely competitive, but fast enough to avoid being lapped
in a 20 lap run, he finished ahead of the various wrecked and
wreck-damaged but running cars, and stayed on the lead lap. I
was expecting him to be slower, and to park it to stay out of the
way. Perhaps the MWR cars are getting better.

Well, had Montoya not been in it, perhaps.

Thanks to various wrecks, I got this one. But last car running,
two laps down, isn't good.

Some other thoughts:

A real nice run for Johnny Sauter, in both races. That surge he
put on at the end of the open was one of the best runs we've seen
in quite a while, and a nice job too by Truex to find a line which
kept him ahead.

It looks like you can really suck all the "goody" out of a right
front tire in 20 laps if a driver is laying on it. Some of the
drivers are going to need to change their setup or their style
for the 600, because there's not going to be a break every 20
laps in that race (or at least we hope not).

I'd never seen the cars used for the crew chief race before, but
those are some nice looking little cars. Kinda reminiscent of
the late 50's Indy roadsters with the lay-down Offy. It's a much
better look than the rather cartoonish Legends cars. I gather
it's got a 600cc motorcycle engine - put a liter engine in it
with a bit of tuning, and it wouldn't be far short of the power
the Offy made in the 50's. They should run them at IRP next
weekend.

I'm sorry I missed that race.

It must have been fun to watch and fun to participate in.

Looks like they have a 1.25 liter engine already:

The newest addition to INEX's racing family is the Thunder Roadster. The
Thunder Roadster should bring back many memories for people who
experienced first-hand open-wheel racing during the '50s and '60s while
offering younger fans a racecar that not only looks fast, but also goes
fast. Just like the Legends and Bandolero Cars, the Thunder Roadster is
made up of the same winning tradition that has propelled the Legends and
Bandolero Cars to the front of spec races. The open-cockpit car utilizes a
sprint car-type roll cage to protect the driver, and wide sidepods have
been included in the design for additional safety. The Thunder Roadster
also features a driver-friendly long wheelbase that will be a great asset
for road racing in addition to competing on asphalt and dirt ovals. An
open cockpit gives fans a great view of the driver at work, as well as
great visibility for the driver.

Wheelbase: 96.00"
Overall Width: 61.00"
Overall Length: 14'3"

Yeah, it was. They ran them on the 1/4 mile on the front stretch,
which is a good length for that sort of car, and they pretty much
let them run - if someone spun they just let them keep going and
the guy that spun had to straighten himself out & catch up. They
only put the yellow out when someone folded up a front suspension
or something like that, and couldn't continue.

Andy Petree won it, I forget who was second. Both guys had a fair
bit of driving experience, which obviously gave them the edge. A
lot of the guys further back were really pushing, tho, and getting
all sorts of sideways on the gas.

Apparently so. Somewhere along the line I heard they had 120hp,
which is about right for a 600cc engine. I guess they turn the
1250cc engine down some, to get good durability. You can easily
get 180hp from a 1000cc engine now.

If USAC had had more sense, these are what the pavement Silver
Crown cars would have ended up looking like.

Who knows?

Now that millions of folks have seen the things,
it could be the start of something big.

They did a little coverage of some races in the
600 Racing Legends a few years back. Looked
like folks were having fun.

"600 Racing" must be derived from the Lowe's
600 mile NASCAR races. Humpy Wheeler seems to
be part of the organization.
