Maybe NASCAR is afraid to call a caution and Stewart woke them up! . Now,
we're getting the opposite, two cars hit the wall spree debris and no
caution.

I don't think Stewart, or anybody else for that matter, has the power
to influence those kind of decisions. Officials in all sports know
that no matter what they call or don't call, somebody isn't going to
like it. Getting criticized just goes with the territory. The last
thing any official can do is allow himself to be influenced by what a
player might think or say about a call.

It's pretty clear to me that NA$CAr really wants to keep it under
green if possible and the drivers know it. Otherwise why would Kenny
Wallace come on the radio and ask his crew to be sure and tell NA$CAr
he tried to avoid the need for another yellow.

Wanting to keep it green if possible and wanting to err on the side of
safety are obviously two conflicting goals. That's a pretty fine line
to walk and the officials are only human. I know that's a job I
wouldn't want and I bet its one Stewart wouldn't want either.

History says, tho, that the officials in all sports use various
criteria to make their calls, and that every so often they're
challenged by the players and the criteria & the calls change.
Defensive backs get more or less liberty to bump the receiver,
the strike zone moves up & down, grabbing & hooking between the
blue lines is or isn't allowed, three steps with the ball isn't
a travel if you shoot...all these things change from season to
season, usually when players or coaches complain that someone
is getting an advantage.

What Stewart did is no different than players in other sports
complaining that the referees are not calling some plays "right",
and it looks like perhaps on review NASCAR agrees, and has
modified their call accordingly.
