Daddy NA$CAR sez: allright Bruton, go ahead and have Friday Qualifying
but we are going to close the garages on Saturday per Mike Mulhern:

This link may work, but my guess is it won't cuz these folks don't even
know how to force readers to register / subscribe just to read
a major Stockcarracin Writer only.

This was the first Fontana race that I've missed. Although I agree
with you about the traffic issues, for me it was more of a money issue.
A weekend at the races costs my family a pretty penny, so I had to
pick one of the two races this year. I chose the fall race.

Regarding the traffic, the first three years there was a second exit
out of the parking lot that they inexplicably closed. Now everyone has
to go out the same way - and they even close certrain freeway on ramps.
Why? From now on, I'm taking the train in. Less flexibility when you
get to arrive and leave, but much more convienient.

Why not take the train? There were several Metrolink trains beyond
the backstretch. I remember them talking about how Fontana was the
one track you could take public transportation to.

Drive to a station with parking and take a train. Simple as that :-)

The train is great. However, if the race runs long, the Metrolink
leaves anyway. It would suck to miss the end of the race 'cause of the
train.

Are you SERIOUS???

The MBTA (Boston) learned their lesson LONG ago. Their commuter rail
trains at North Station (where the Old Boston Garden was and the new
Fleece Center is) waited for the Bruins/Celtics game to end if they
ran long.

What they ended up paying in overtime was less than what they would
have lost if they ticked off loyal fans who bought undiscounted train
tickets and changed their travel habits. Then, even better, they
schedule midnight-ish trains to catch the stragglers.

Note that there's a federal law which forbids train crews from working
more than 12 hours. Depending on how the California folk are staffed,
and what else those crews have to do, they might have some hard limits
on when the trains have to move.
