Ok-

IF and a big "IF" JJ wins a 4th straight title, do you think NASCAR needs to
do a little more tweeking to the points system?

JJ has definitely got the system down, but I think people will get tired of
seeing JJ win all the time, just like they did with Earnhardt, SR.

I don't know about "need." They may tweak anyway to try to
keep it close. How about a Chase within the Chase? Six
races to pick six; reset the points again; then the final
four races pick the champ.

I've been tired of Hendrick's winning ways for lo! these many
years.

The right way for folks to put a stop to it is to outrun 'em
on the track. Apparently, it's easier said than done. ;o)

The commentators kept making the point today that this is the closest
points race they have had since they implemented the Chase format. But
JJ sure does seem to have it figured out.

What!!?? Penalize success? Do you work for the gummint or sumpin? When we
start penalizing excellence, we will wind up with nothing but mediocrity!

Too bad. I'm not a Hendrick fan but when you are THAT good, you deserve to
win... plain and simple. Remember, it is equality of opportunity, not
equality of outcome..

It's not like he's running away with it.
He just took the lead yesterday.
He could easily lose it next week.

On a different note, I can't see how "if" he should do it,
he could not be considered one of the best all time.
After his rookie season, I don't think he has finished worse
than 2nd. ( I don't want to look it up)
Wow.
That's as much a Dynasty as any other in sports.

Agreed. And I hate myself for agreeing. (

Me, neither.

Yup. And he has to beat his teammates, one of whom
has four (4) Cups himself and who has access to the
same information and equipment.

Pretty awesome.

And depressing if you happen to have a congenital
and irrational love for Ford Motor Company. :-O

As Marty said, I don't think they "need" to make any change.

Yep. And NASCAR's history says that whenever one brand/driver/
whatever seems to have some sort of advantage, they change the
rules to take that advantage away.

So I would not be surprised to see them make some sort of change
if Johnson wins, or really even if one of the other Hendrick
cars win.

I wouldn't be surprised to see them make some changes
because making changes is part of the NASCAR culture.

I wouldn't attribute any changes that come after this season
to be due to any anti-Hendrick or anti-Chevrolet bias at
headquarters. "Post hoc non est propter hoc": from the
fact that one thing comes after another in time, it does
not follow necessarily that the later event was caused
by the earlier event.

Of course, I'm not denying that there may be anti-Hendrick
or anti-Chevrolet bias at headquarters. When you're working
with humans, that is always a possibility (the elders who
live just below the death zone on Moral Victory mountain
excepted; oxygen deprivation keeps them from wasting
brainpower on trivial pursuits). The evidence that there
is such a bias would have to come from something other than
a rules change for next season.

Well, unless the rules change is that last year's champion
has to start every race from the 43rd position. That might
be a telltale sign. :-O

If that were really the case, wouldn't they have done it
after winning 3 in a row?
Come on, John.
You're better than all of this black helicopter stuff.

I wouldn't have been surprised if they had done. NASCAR's theme
all the way back to the 60's, back in the day of the Hemi and
the SOHC Ford, has been parity. If NASCAR thought that for some
reason the rules were giving Hendrick or Chevrolet an advantage,
they'd change the rules.

I mean, look at the Nationwide series last year. Half way thru
the year, NASCAR decides the rules give Toyota an advantage, and
they change the rule to say Toyota gets a 1.1" plate and everyone
else gets a 1.125" plate.

So, if Johnson wins, or Martin, or Stewart, or Gordon; which
would be 4 in a row for Hendrick/Chevy, I wouldn't be at all
surprised to see a rule change.

John
