With a last lap wreck how does NASCAR finish order the last lap wrecked not finishing cars? The wrecked cars (ones not able to move & cross the finish line) are scored as the last cars on whatever lap they're on (i.e. if they're on the lead lap, they're scored at the end of the lead lap cars; if they're one lap down they're scored at the end of the one lap down cars, etc). If there's more than one wrecked car, they're scored in the order they were running immediately prior to the wreck (as determined by the timing loops in the track). John, |

John, Am I misremembering, or in "the old days" were the cars placed by how far they got around the track on that final lap? IOW, if we wrecked coming out of turn 1, and my car slid to a stop in turn 2, and yours rolled to a stop half-way down the backstretch, you'd be scored ahead of me because you got further down the track. And, just to complicate matters, Marty was right behind us (but on the same lap) in the "Moral Victory Mountain" Dodge at the last scoring loop. He gets past us as we start spinning, but runs out of gas and coasts to a stop in 4. It sounds like the way they score it now, Marty ends up behind both of us, despite completing nearly half a lap more... |

I really don't remember...I sorta think up until the 70's that may have been the rule, and then for safety reasons they changed to scoring them in the order of the previous lap ("last lap completed"). |

OK, the way I think it works now, if the caution is shown when you & I wreck, that freezes the field - however, since you & I can't maintain pace car speed (we're wrecked) and Marty can, the MVM car will advance it's position past us, and as long as he gets past another scoring loop he'll be ahead of us in the final scoring. |

I suspect this is one of those things not written down & NASCAR will make the definitive call if & when it ever happens. :-) |
