....maybe this is at the bottom of any feud that may be or has
been going on at DEI with Jr and his *evil* step-mother ;-)

Wow. That's big. The question is this, would the old man be doing the same
thing if he were still making the bidness decisions? I'm not sure Teresa is
doing anything that Sr wouldn't be doing. Just my opinion.
Of course, none of us could know what Sr. might have done, but I like to
think that it all started as a way to protect Jr's interests. I can
half picture it:

"Son, I know you don't care one bit about all this business stuff, but
we need to do this now. I'll take care of it for you, and when you're
ready to step up to the plate, I'll hand it over..."

I'd like to think that a father wouldn't manipulate a son into signing
away the rights to his own name without the intention of giving said
rights back at some point in the future. After all, Jr worked for daddy
on a handshake until 2002. If Jr had to ask Teresa for a real contract
at that time, then obviously he doesn't trust her to look after his
interests as much as he trusted his father. And from the sounds of all
the hoo-ha going on at DEI all the time, rightly so.

Just my .02

Wow. That's big.
Well, I'm not sure it really is. It's not uncommon for athletes
to sign exclusive rights deals to their name, what seems to be
unusual here is apparently Earnhardt's deal is perpetual. But
I suspect he could recover the rights to his name if it was a
real concern - having him under contract as a driver is a
critical thing for DEI, so he's got a lot of leverage in
negotiations if he thinks he needs it.

It any event, it's likely to Earnhardt's advantage to have
Teresa controlling his name. She has the reputation of a
sharp businesswoman, and likely is making more for him than
he would if he were marketing his name directly.

Almost certainly. It's widely beleived that Teresa Earnhardt
made all the business decisions, and is the reason Dale's
worth was in the 10s of millions, not just millions. So
I think there's little doubt that Teresa would have set up
the same deal if Dale Sr was still alive.

Essentially, it came down to trust. Once she trusted him enough
to cherish what Dale Earnhardt means, she obliged the deal.

Sounds like she was just looking out for him, good for them both!

I don't believe there is any 'feud between the two other than the normal
step-mom/step-son relationship and that is probably better than most. There
is a huge business worth millions of dollars and a name that is basically
historical. She is a brilliant business woman and from all true reposts, a
good Mom.
