Default The randomness of postings appearing - 02-22-2005 , 05:07 PM

I posted my RPG Season Top 10 and my Daytona picks within minutes of each other
about 29 hours before the race. One of them showed up, finally, Sunday night.
I posted 3 others after the race and 2 showed up but still not my RPG post from
Saturday or the results from Sunday.

The randomness of this is leading me to think I may take an afternoon and submit
my RPG picks for the season all at once or make the same 5 standing picks for
every race.

I won't object to them being mailed direct to me in addition to posting them
here, if you happen to notice that your post isn't appearing go ahead and
send it to me so there is no doubt about timing.

I think we can trust each other if posts appear to come after the fact,
especially when the scores are negative. :-)

Marty or Bob might be able to comment if one of the posts triggered
the modbot to route the post for hand attention from a moderator.
Alternatively, it may have taken the long route thru Switzerland
(one of the moderation relays is there).

One can always tell by looking at the headers when a post was
posted (for instance, yours was posted at 8:27:20 in the morning).
So there's no real issue even if your guesses show up late for
some reason.

BTW, aren't you leading the dang contest?

John

(thinks there wouldn't be much to talk about if you had the same
picks every week)

My brain is mush. I've been finishing a book that I've been working
on for 8+ years (the first author worked on it for 17+ years). It's
not a good night for me to wade through our logs. (

There are four or five moderators on duty ... ooops ...

<gone for a moment>

Ahem. As I was saying, there are FIVE moderators on duty
right now. I forgot to log back in after my trip to see Dad
ten days ago. )

There are oddities with the moderation system. If we knew how
to make it all better, we would. Frustrating users is NOT fun
for the mods.

Please note that all mod posts go through exactly the same system
as anyone else's (apart from our particular ISP/news setups). Once
the post gets to the mod software, it gets treated just like anyone
else's.

I get a real kick when I get dealt one of my own posts to moderate.

Marty

GUESSES?!? I'll have you know I use a combination of hydrophobia, ISP and my
naturally telepathetic powers.

OK, this gets the award from the heights of Moral Victory Mountain
for the funniest sentence this week.

Well done, good and faithful Weasel!

I have no complaints with the system. If technology was the end-all answer we
think it should be ... I'd be out of a job. I can live with oddities and
anomalies. I *live* for 'em!

I'd like to thank the academy and all of academia, for that matter, for this
award. It's so nice to be seen, let alone recognized, from the heights, as I am
so way far below.
