Default RPG - Debris Caution - 05-07-2007 , 08:02 PM

Well, at the suggestion of Mr. Weasel, I attempted to go back thru the
archives and reconstruct my scores. I missed a couple of the early races
and then when I did start with the RPG I misunderstood the rules soooo.....
rather than try to figger out what my score "might" be, I will just wait in
the pits for a debris caution and begin anew.

BTW, just out of curiosity, where does everyone live? I am in MO.

Mike

It's your choice.

Feel free to do interim RPGs--go for the weekly bragging rights!

Default Simmons asks where we at? - 05-08-2007 , 12:28 AM

What part? I used to live in Joplin (Jamie Mac territory), and have a
zillion or so ancestors buried in Greene County.....

Currently in the SE burbs of Chicago, trying to sell a house and move to
Indy.

Joplin is almost not even MO..... more Okie. If you move to Indy, will you
then be a Tony Stewart fan?
Interestingly, last year we went to the Brickyard 400 and stayed at the
Cummins employee campground in Columbus, IN. Now THEY are TS fans!
BTW, I live in Union, MO... a small town about 45 miles SW of StL just off
I-44.

The missus is from Pittsburgh and my son lived in a small town nears
Wiliamsport for a while after getting out of the USMC. Nice area! We take
the RV back to PA occasionally and visit the PA dutch country and
Gettysburg.

Buffalo has had five or six very photogenic monster
storms in my lifetime. They were truly extraordinary
events, especially for those who were here in the
blizzard years back in the 70s (I was out of town).

The rest of the time, our snowfalls are basically
pretty manageable. Syracuse and the area north of
there routinely average four to eight feet more of
annual snowfall than Buffalo. They are quite upset
that haven't been able to change national perceptions
about Buffalo.

My nearest NASCAR tracks are Watkins Glen (I've been
there twice), Pocono, and Michigan. If they build
a Toronto track, that would be an easy day trip
(depending on which side of the city they chose).

The nearest NASCAR tracks to StL are Chicago and Kansas City. We have a
nice 1.5 mile track at Gateway International across the Mississippi from
StL, but it does not host a cup race. They do have a Craftsman truck race
and a Busch race there and I attend those but I would love to see the cup
some to StL. Sadly, it is owned by Dover and apparently there is some "bad
blood" between the France's and Dover.

The 'Glen eh? I would love to see a NASCAR event on a road course again.
Years ago in Wentzville, MO (about 65 miles west of StL) there was a track
(Mid-America Raceway Park that hosted an annual USAC stock car race on their
road course. I attended several and really enjoyed it. A.J. Foyt, Parnelli
Jones and Dan Gurbey were the big names in USAC back then. I guess I am
dating myself a bit tho'.

When I was a pup, I used to race a Sportsman and then a late-model car at
Lakehill Speedway in Valley Park, MO (suburb of StL). It was a 1/2 mile
asphalt oval and it was a lot of fun. NASCAR hosted one race there in the
60's but it was more of an exhibition than a points race. Several big names
were there and it was won by Tiny Lund.

Ah, the good old days! I wish that NASCAR would revert back to true stock
cars and turn the teams and manufacturers loose and let 'em "run whutcha
brung". Those days, I'm afraid, are gone forever.
