2 Inarow Sat Nite Races Rained Out Are the Racin' Gods trying to tell NA$CAr something like Respect Your Elders? It's too late at nite for old stockcarracin fans to watch tv races (almost all tv ratings are down). Local Saturday Nite race attendance is down. Next race--AllStars Sat Nite 5/19--Forecast? -- Crusader |

| I don't know (or even care) about the old timers, but I like Saturday night races. You can't beat the color & spectacle of a Saturday night shootout. It gives you something worthwhile to do on a Saturday night (like drag the plasma out onto the deck and throw a deck party!), it clears up Sunday to spend time with the family, and if the race is rained out, you can still catch it the next day live. I see no downside whatsoever with night races. Give the old farts some time to get used to the night races, then let's see how the ratings stack up. I love Saturday night racing. We won our feature this past weekend with a pass in the final turn of the final lap. Now THAT is how you run a race. I can't imagine sitting around the house watching TV on a Saturday night. When that sounds attractive, just go buy me a rocking chair. |

| What we do during a Saturday night NC race hardly qualifies as old, stale or boring. A keg of beer, hot wings, burgers, hot dogs, pizza, tropical drinks for the ladies, a fully stocked wet bar, a fire pit burning 15 feet from the deck, a 52" plasma with 360 degree outside surround, a heated, in-ground pool, and a seven person hot tub (within easy viewing distance of the plasma). Sorry Carey, but I'd rather do that than suck dirt & exhaust fumes all night, then sit in an hour of traffic & deal with the obligatory race track power drinkers. With my plan, we all just walk home or sleep over until the next day in the guest room or game room. Everybody has fun, no one gets hurt, and other than a Sunday morning clean-up, very little effort expended. Sounds like a winner to me.....; ) Well, I happen to enjoy busting on the car and hoping to get it to run |

Sounds like a winner to me.....; ) Well, I happen to enjoy busting on the car and hoping to get it to run right; as well as the camaraderie of the team. With the added responsibilities of heading up the touring series, I also have to spend some time rustling up sponsors. This past weekend was a tough one, with two races out of town (Beaumont Friday and Lufkin on Saturday) and our first time as a new series at both. That also meant some time for me in the booth with the announcer 'splainin' to all what we are about and trying to do. We had the grill going at both tracks, won at Lufkin (in the last lap, or did I already say that?). Got the payouts, passed the money around. Heck, by the time I left, there wasn't any traffic, just a couple of hours driving to do. Just as well, I was still pretty much on GMT since I just got back Stateside on Wednesday night after ten days in Africa. TV? Some weekends, I never even turn it on. Heck, I don't even own a big screen or a plasma. Yeah, sometimes we may get a little hurt; a car or two may get torn up, but it IS racing and I couldn't imagine spending a weekend any other way. As it is, I am going on vacation this week, and driving up to Indiana. The 500 is only one of nine events on my tentative list, ranging as far north and east as Kokomo and Anderson to as far west and south as Terre Haute and Haubstadt. A stop in Memphis for some blues and barbeque on the way home. . . . . To each their own, though. Some of us choose to watch, while others of us choose to take part. I'm not saying one is better than the other. When I get old, I may buy be one of those big screens. Until then, I would much rather be there. Carey in Manvel U RASNers are weird! |

Some people are fans entirely content to watch, some fans want to get into the mix and actually race, or just go to the track for their entertainment. What you say is correct, to each their own. You and I (and thousands like us) just happen to choose Live over Memorex. Nuttin wrong with either IMO. |

And yes, I have the whole HD/surround thing going on too (and a heated pool? It's 80+ here AT NIGHT....woo, don't need no heat!), but I'd rather be racing than watching people race, when I can. When I can't, watching is just fine...So long as the Tivo got set right and grabbed the race and not some rerun of "Cops" or some other insanely boring programming... |
