Please clarify something for me:

Why should they devote valuable web space to promote somebody who should be
promoting them?

Now, if I were to go to Tony Stewart's website, I would expect to see The
Home Depot displayed prominently.

nascar is a sponsor driven business, not a testimonial driven business.

Well, yeah, I know that.
You still haven't told me why Home Depot should advertise Tony Stewart on
their website.

Most people who visit the Home Depot website could care less that they
sponsor a race car. Home Depot is not in the business of promoting NASCAR.
Home Depot is in the business of selling home improvement products. If
they can use Tony Stewart or the #20 car to do that, then they will.
Otherwise, Tony and the car take a backseat.

I already tried, Wheeler. I've decided to just wait until he's finished his
little "exclusive". There are only about 30 more active drivers, he'll be
done in a few weeks.

I think he doesn't believe in targeted marketing -- from his comments I've
gathered that to him, if somebody is alive, they should be marketed to,
whether the message/medium/method is relevant to them or not.

You're still missing it. The question is: 'Who needs home improvement
supplies but isn't interested in NASCAR in the least bit?' Lots of people.

Or perhaps 'Who needs home improvement supplies but actively dislikes
NASCAR?' Some people.

Your thesis seems to be (correct me if I'm wrong) that if a company is in
NASCAR, they should be actively promoting this on their main website. That
they are wasting their money if they don't.

I propose that they may or may not want to tie their corporate image to one
particular form of motorsports (perhaps among many, perhaps not) that the
company sponsors, and that they have done their own particular research to
decide to what degree they want to tie their international face (corporate
website) to the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing.

I just don't see how it's a story, where they fall on this line. Or more
directly to this thread, I don't see why you want to level criticism at
those that have chosen to minimize or ignore their NASCAR ties on their
corporate website.

Understand the perception, right or wrong, that much of the world has of
NASCAR: It occassionally makes headlines for killing or injuring
participants, that features noisy V8-engined pollution machines going round
in circles for sport while hundreds of thousands of beer-drinking readnecks
wearing driver-themed merchandise cheer lustily while waiting for crashes.
Is this perception fair? No, but that's irrelevant.

So, what part of that is attractive to your national or perhaps worldwide
marketing campaign? In a certain area of the country, lots. In fact, to a
targetted and very large demographic of *NASCAR fans* it is a great
marketing vehicle. For much of the rest of the world, it either a) does
nothing to enhance a corporate image or b) actively detracts from it.

Making a separate site to deal with the racing effort makes perfect sense to
me. Be proud of it, cater to the fans of it, have fun with it. But don't
necessarily tie your entire corporate image to it, if it's not what you're
about.

Yes, they are so ashamed of Tony and their racing effort that they devoted
an entire website to it instead of burying it among the tools on their
regular website...lol!

Farva's intelligence continues to astound.

ask any north carolinian about the tooth and nail fight between home depot

how about coke and pepsi?

ford vs. chevy?

ever heard of them?

they still advertise........

That didn't answer my question. Do you think Home Depot has a problem with
people knowing who they are or what they do?

For that matter, do you think any NASCAR fan has any doubt about who
sponsors Tony Stewart?
