This is a little like the "what's the benefit to NASCAR screwing with Mayfield's drug test" question: what's the benefit to NASCAR by choosing Johnson to win the race? He's a very good driver, but he's boring as all get out, he doesn't have any real fan base. If NASCAR wanted to pick a driver to win, they'd pick Stewart or Gordon or Earnhardt, or maybe Kenseth or Edwards if they didn't want to be obvious - someone with a big fan base, that the media would make a fuss about. I imagine those numbers will keep growing with each win and championship. Besides, how can you not like a guy who got started riding dirt bikes? http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Who_are_the_top_ten_Nascar_drivers_in_merchandise_ sal es |
