Championships driving a Holden (GM), though it could have been a Ford.
These were V8 powerhouses, not 4 cylinder touring cars.

Holden Commodore, which was sold as the Pontiac GTO in the US.

Nice cars if you can get past the "Australian" (looks like an egg)
design cues. 400HP and RWD? Not a bad grocery getter. And it was
relatively cheap compared to other 400HP cars out there ($32k).

Good news is that Holden has a streetable 4-link, RWD setup that is
coming here in the new Impala SS (2009), the new Camaro (2009) and the
*new* Monte Carlo (slated for 2010 - which if it is a RWD version of
my wife's current car, will be a nice 2D street machine).

Ambrose is getting the benefit of Gordon's expertise in road racing. We'll
see if he can take advantage of it or whether he was just a flash in the
pan.

Ambrose doesn't need Gordon's road racing experience; he's a first class
road racer on his own.

if the car is at least half decent (which gordon's cars always seem to
be on road courses) then i'd have to count ambrose as being a top 10
guy this weekend along with JPM, carpentier, RG,fellows and all the
road course ringers that will surely be brought in this weekend

JPM maybe. Robby - for sure, as long as he doesn't get wrecked out. The
ringers? They've never impressed yet. No point holding out for anything
stellar from them. The Cup regulars consistently perform better than the
ringers.

I hope your comments don't include Ron Fellows: He's won in Busch road
races, NCCTS road races, and come damn close in Cup races... when he had a
capable car, or wasn't dumped by an idiot. Or not screwed as he once was in
a cup car by dopey pit strategy. This guy has won Le Mans, and been the
dominant GM Corvette team in many ALMS and other international endurance
races. As long as he's in a competitive car, he can win. But if he's just
in an average car, from a team trying to stay or get in the top 35 in
points, he's doomed.

These were V8 powerhouses, not 4 cylinder touring cars. Anyone who has
watched an ATCC race knows Ambrose is a top driver among many other
good Aussie drives and knows how to bang doors and trade paint. The
ATCC was shown for a couple of years on Speed but they appeared to
have dropped the series.

Like I said. Ambrose gets the benefit of Gordon's experience in road
racing.

Huh?

He has plenty of road racing experience. All of the Australian V8 series
is run on road courses.

As much as Gordon? As much racing experience as Gordon?

Right....

Like I said. Ambrose gets the benefit of Gordon's experience in road

OK, now, Cal, pay attention: all of the road racing experience is NOT gained
in the USA!

its called the zeta platform isn't it? this is very good news because
if i'm not mistaken, the corvette is the only chevy that is RWD right
now is it not?

My comments do indeed include Ron Fellows. Every road race, all of the
ringers comments come out of the woodwork. The fact is the regulars beat
the ringers every time. No matter that Fellows had his problems - every
driver faces those same problems every week. You could pick any driver and
make the statement that they *could* have won, *if* this or that. Simple
enough - ringers show up at every road race, and regulars continue to not
get trounced by them. Bottom line - the regulars are just as good and just
as likely to win any road course as any of the ringers are. Ringers...
harrumph!

If you have trouble understanding that, ask your third grade teacher
