with those whom may be interested. esp for something for charity. guess
not.
Keep up the good work.

Auction for charity ! ....that's the part I have a problem with,
because IMO that's not what this is.

more snip

"fundraising venture" is the key in that sentence, but some may be
interested in the charity aspect also....chee-ya right

| My friend has a unique vehicle up for auction (I scanned some photos he
had
| taken, took a few myself, and helped him upload his site / set up EBAY,
but
| am not making any money from this)
|

Let's examine this unique vehicle. 1988 model - 15 years old
standard issue f-350 mini-coach body with race shit all over it from
top to bottom.

New engine... "shit" is on magnetics, removable and customizable. materials
provided for you to set up as you please. and create more "shit"
Signatures all over the inside and outside with coments from drivers (If
that dosen't make something uniqie and increse value to race fans, what
will? please tell me)

Something that would be more reliable than a 15 yo bus with an
unfinished rear a/c unit for starters. The autographs and comments are
worth $1000 each? That's the difference in "sentimental/collector"
value between the actual vehicle and the price.
Profit/seed money for the next project. Sorry if your friend dumped a
buncho ca$h into this, but it ain't anywhere worth the starting price
of the so called "auction for charity".

With autographs dedicated from racers? really? go for it.

and signatures / memorabilia have no value to race fans? this is not just a
bus...

No argument there about the just a bus part.
I wonder who'd pay this premium for autographs when the premium
doesn't get donated, but used for another fundraising venture project.
Quote:
Donations will not exceed 40% . Currently 23%.
WTF does that mean?

so If we'd drop the donation part, all would be ok, right?
Never said that.

Quote:
Others just say
proceeds donated... kind of vauge, don't you think? Ron had even stated he
wanted to donate more, the cut off limit was for 19,900 so that he could
recoup money spent and utilize as seed money for the next project. what is
wrong with that?

Just don't hang the donation part as the reason for the sale. Read
this header if yore not sure of what I'm sayin.

Quote:
I think this is misnamed, but you'll prolly find a goob to buy it at
that price.

what you you call it? Perhaps he should have just put it up as a collectors
item and said the heck with charity. (at least my opinion for all the hoops
and nonscence he had to deal with)

woulda had the same nil result with that price.

Here's a real charity auction for you
http://limodigest.com/makeawish.html
the items are all donated and the money all goes to the charity
gonna be $20K easy in the room that night raised.
donations

this was done by an individuals effort, no an orginazion or business with
gov backing and privelages. No tax exempt status, or other support or
investors / or donations. even had to pay to get in, arrange for all, pay
for phone calls... we are not exempt. how shall we pay the bills? tell them,
sorry, we were doing this for charity, we won't pay?

The people at charity auctions are not corporations. Individuals reach
in their pockets and give to support the charity. Individuals and
corporations and associations get people to DONATE items for the
Charity Auctions. This thing is misnamed, in my opinion.
Simple as that.
Quote:
I donate a portion of proceeds from an ongoing enterprise that has
market rates that are not inflated to accomodate the charity donation.
VJGC is the recipient and we promote additional giving from our
clients during our charity fundraising drive.

portion of procedes... do you specify how much? no.
Yes. We specify 10%. And we distribute pamphlets on behalf of the
organization to solicit further giving.

Quote:
perhaps that was our
downfall? Besides, when is giving all a requirement? we never stated we are
a non-profit org! others do this and do not even mention how much is even
being donated!!! I thought it was a nice action on behalf of Ron, rather
that auctioning for sole individual gain. not?

I agree a portion donated is valiant. He doesn't have to, you are
right. My head is hurting and the wall is giving way, so I won't
repeat myself again. Read above for a clue.
Quote:

This just smells funny... and I'm not just talking about the bus.

how would you promote? that was one of my concerns. Despite all the
problems, and the fact that Ron dosen't have to follow through since noone
bid and the auction was a failure, he still plans to donate a portion upon
sale.

Lower the price and try again. Since he tried e-bay once with an out
of sight price, maybe he can return with a better understanding of the
market value based on the bids he received.
Good Luck!

the item above is the same type as you are selling. It's a (custom)

...and if you find that one, please post it, today's edition of rasn
could prolly use it.
;-(

And in case you are new to this group, you may want to know that there
are pledges made and donations that donut involve autographs (except
of course the banner). The attempts at fraud using Na$car memorabilia
are too numerous to acknowledge.
This is NOT to say that you are attempting this, please be clear on
this, however, in my opinion the header needs some serious work to not
be a misrepresentation.

No, it does not. PETA posts, do, and I notice your absence from bitching
about those.

Figured some may not like it, althought not specifically stated so, that's
why I asked and sent to the moderators on other lists before posting. Noone
offered any feedback or opinion (here, on website, or in letters I wrote

after I started ranting, did people reply or offer suggestions / advice

And how would donation by self instead of fundrasing generate seed money for
the next fundraiser project?

you mention it above, and it's more than signatures.

Quote:

WTF does that mean?
you read the site? the more it sells for, the more seed money for another
project like the last that spawend this... why is this so hard for people to
wrap heads around. instead of asking for someone to donate an item to
auction, proceeds from thae last feed the next project. what is wrong with
that? Is it because we don't give it all away? We don't have a business to
fund this, he works in construction, myself electronics, and thought this
would be a nice thing to do.

BTW, It does get donated, it seeds the next project, how is that not charity
as well. it is just not specified what will be next.

Quote:
so If we'd drop the donation part, all would be ok, right?

Never said that.
well, it seems if it was sold as a collectable all would be fine to most.
but because we wanted to donate some "profits" we are money grubbing scam
artist to some, nice outlook. I suppose I have to give everything away if I
want to donate anything from a sale. Yoplait donates a part of sales to
cancer, and they still make a profit... Yet noone acuses them of
misaproation even thought it's only a few cents they actually give from a
sale... many "companies" do this... and this is from an individual

Quote:
Others just say

Just don't hang the donation part as the reason for the sale. Read
this header if yore not sure of what I'm sayin.
Where does it say donation is the reason for sale? it says it's up for
auction and ron wants to donate some of the profits, correct? explicity, no
slight of hand, spelled all out for all to see, even registered with the
respective orgs.
the sight spells it all out, we are not misleading and offer more info where
the money will go than others. How would you do it? it seems to me I should
have said, no, I will not donate my help in this endevor for charity, too
much hassle. Just sell it. keep all the profits for yourself, the hell with
trying to come up with a new twist for the public.

I guess the pics didn't do justice and wish more would have offered words of
discouragment, than rallying us on at the races. the media and drivers
seemed to be behind this concept as well.

what would you call it? how would you handle selling something you plan to
sell and want to donate part of it to the fans of the item for sale? not say
anything, then donate afterwards? we thought this would get us some
publicity for trying to do some good, rather than just sell it. (I am really
asking, how would *you* do this? if at all)

we didn't have the cash to donate, so we fixed up the bus and came up with
this concept, apparently flawed. should we just have donated the bus?

Quote:

Yes. We specify 10%. And we distribute pamphlets on behalf of the
organization to solicit further giving.

from an enterprise... do you have other sources of revinue from products? we
do not. we have no products and the charity does not help our business. we
don't have one.
and we specified 23% min, possibly more depending on final sale price.

Sorry, just getting so much flack after the fact, not of much help now. we
tried to do something nice, spell it all out so noone is mislead. IMO,
neither of us did anything unethical, but you'd be suprised all the grief,
enought to make me say the heck with it.

Thanks, We will see. he may give to a race org who can handle this better.
it has been a lesson at least. perhaps we were just in over our heads on
this one. but it is a really nice vehicle :-)

Thankyou,
we are registered and provided links to the sites so anyone may verify.
there was news coverage, and articles have been published. their are
pictures in the bus of the drivers signing that spot on the bus, hard to
fake :-) check out some of the photos if ya get the chance... (not all are
online, but enough to show it's legit.) The drivers were told their
signatures were seeked to increase the value, and some made notes commenting
on what we were doing, that has to be worth something... I don't see how
it's misrepresenting when it's spelled out where and how much will go
where... it seems if we just left it say "some proceeds donated here, some
there" we would have been better off...

thanks for the feedback, BTW
~Harē

BTW, my main involvement has been some computer help... and to relay
Internet communications to Ron, all time and web resources donated by myself
for this project.
