Default ! Auction for charity ! ~ does this violate FAQ? - 10-08-2003 , 10:55 PM

Since no one on a moderated list will even give me the time of day for some
reason, I'm posting this here. I don't know if it qualifies as spam, It's
only academic at this point as the auction is soon over, leaving little time
for anyone to get funds together, so selling isn't the point, so spam does
not really fit... more of a rant.

Thank you so much for not even bothering to respond. I can understand not
wanting to post this to your list specifically, but you think fellow Nascar
fans would help point in the right direction to where I could get in contact
with those whom may be interested. esp for something for charity. guess not.
Keep up the good work.

Remarks by Harry: It's a shame that Ron hasn't received a bid on this
vehicle as of yet. He has poured his heart and soul and a lot of money and
time into this project. Fighting for coverage, faced with many roadblocks
and setbacks, scheduling problems, stubborn and opportunistic people, and a
hurricane. I have seen lesser vehicles sell for more, SELL at auction for
profit to an individual only, for sole gain, for a lot more. He came up with
this concept and did all the work to arrange for autographs and donations to
be made from some of the profits after the sale. How many people do that? I
know some fan out there would love to buy this vehicle! I would myself, if I
had the cash. I'd put this remark on EBAY as well, but can't due to less
than 12 hours remaining on auction. One mans opinion. Harry Fetterman.

My friend has a unique vehicle up for auction (I scanned some photos he

but
am not making any money from this)

Probably because they are mostly a silly little bunch who are cowering in
the corner afraid that someone will come along and ruin their
little clique.

| If you are interested I can post information about this on our Nascar
Quote:
related website as well as a few other websites that we have for our
business.

Paula

Thankyou.

From the sites I did get in contact with, the general attitude has been...

a) they think it's a scam
(or)
b) they want a cut
(or)
c) they are mad they didn't think of it first

I'll let you know what Ron decides (or has) to do with it if this auction
attempt is a failure, if interested.

Regards
~Harē

BTW

At one race Ron was even made to park the racebuggy (was circling in the
infield) by
security as he was trying to circle and promote, on his path to reach the
media for and interview... For which he had verifiable clearance... he was
driving slow, very slow so all could see. The rent-a-cop would not even
bother to check it out after repeated requests and plea's. Wouldn't said
what he did wrong, just made him park it. Ron kept his cool. (I would have
flipped out if I was there... He would have got coverage one way or another.
I would have drug that cop to the media, let him bust me if he can. I'd get
on the news one way or the other... though, in retrospect, I realize this
may not help the cause, but I hate pathetic guys on power trips like that.)
By
the time Ron was able to get hold of someone who could *do* anything about
this, it was too late and he lost the interview opportunity. (and made him
look unprofessional for not showing up) That really made things hard and
messed up the timing of things as you can imagine... If this seems like
small potatoes, you see what it takes to get in contact with the media and
organize / co-ordinate to try to get coverage at an event legitimately. This
is not a easy, quick task for an individual with no media connections. Many
long-distant phone tag hoops to jump through. (seemed to me that no one
wanted to stick their neck out... or they had no real power to do
*anything*... hard to tell which) Some of the other supporters that did help
with promotion, would not do so until the auction started! Gee, talk about
a tight time frame... I can understand this to a point, but we had to, and
did delay the auction anyway, so what is(was) the point? If to ensure we
would not back out, or concern over it being a scam, how would a short time
frame help? It would only limit the number of people we could reach, and
the amount of time people interested could see if they could secure funds.

(I will not mention the track or media involved specifically, as it was not
their fault that the opportunity was missed)

LOL,
well ,the FAQ listed definitions of what was tolerated on the list... If
they had referred to it as a charter, I'd have said that...

Let's examine this unique vehicle. 1988 model - 15 years old
standard issue f-350 mini-coach body with race shit all over it from
top to bottom. New engine at 65K miles. A/C needs some work.
That could be expensive. Hmmmm. Where could I find a real limo bus for
20K?
That's the real issue. $20K to start the bid on a $7K (on a REAL good
day) item. Oh yeah, lets not forget the charity part of this auction!
Donations will not exceed 40% . Currently 23%.
WTF does that mean?

I think this is misnamed, but you'll prolly find a goob to buy it at
that price.

Here's a real charity auction for you
http://limodigest.com/makeawish.html
the items are all donated and the money all goes to the charity
gonna be $20K easy in the room that night raised.
donations

I donate a portion of proceeds from an ongoing enterprise that has
market rates that are not inflated to accomodate the charity donation.
VJGC is the recipient and we promote additional giving from our
clients during our charity fundraising drive.

This just smells funny... and I'm not just talking about the bus.

It took me 2 seconds to find this.

1996 Limo Bus 24-Pass.
Black/Gray Int. Bar, CD, Attractive Lighting, Cummins Diesel 5.9 Ltr.
Alison Trans., 32K Miles, Price for Quick Sale $23,500
http://www.limodigest.com/class.html
down at the bottom

does this violate the FAQ?

I think it viloates the good taste FAQ
....and if you find that one, please post it, today's edition of rasn
could prolly use it.
;-(

New engine... "shit" is on magnetics, removable and customizable. materials
provided for you to set up as you please. and create more "shit"
Signatures all over the inside and outside with coments from drivers (If
that dosen't make something uniqie and increse value to race fans, what
will? please tell me)

Rear AC was added as an afterthought and left incomplete because we ran into
money problems. so much for us being honest. could have said "we'll throw in
parts to add rear AC, for free" I'll admit

With autographs dedicated from racers? really? go for it.

so If we'd drop the donation part, all would be ok, right? Others just say
proceeds donated... kind of vauge, don't you think? Ron had even stated he
wanted to donate more, the cut off limit was for 19,900 so that he could
recoup money spent and utilize as seed money for the next project. what is
wrong with that?

Quote:

what you you call it? Perhaps he should have just put it up as a collectors
item and said the heck with charity. (at least my opinion for all the hoops
and nonscence he had to deal with)

this was done by an individuals effort, no an orginazion or business with
gov backing and privelages. No tax exempt status, or other support or
investors / or donations. even had to pay to get in, arrange for all, pay
for phone calls... we are not exempt. how shall we pay the bills? tell them,
sorry, we were doing this for charity, we won't pay?

portion of procedes... do you specify how much? no. perhaps that was our
downfall? Besides, when is giving all a requirement? we never stated we are
a non-profit org! others do this and do not even mention how much is even
being donated!!! I thought it was a nice action on behalf of Ron, rather
that auctioning for sole individual gain. not?

Quote:

how would you promote? that was one of my concerns. Despite all the
problems, and the fact that Ron dosen't have to follow through since noone
bid and the auction was a failure, he still plans to donate a portion upon
sale.
