I don't see there's much in it. ESPN still hasn't clued in to the
truth that too many cooks spoil the soup (Fox hasn't figured that
out either). We don't need 3 guys competing in the booth to get
their voice on the air, and we certainly don't need 3 more in the
"infield studio" (or "hollywood hotel") desperately needing time
for their 2 cents.

Back off to one announcer, one color man, and a good crew of pit
road reporters and they'd have an ample broadcast crew.

Agree on Rusty and Suzy...but I like Jerry. Call me crazy, but I do.
Maybe it was all the years of NASCAR on ESPN and TNT with him at the
helm? Dunno.

I'll call you crazy. Jerry Punch was never at the helm for "all
those years" on ESPN or TNT. This is his first attempt at leading
the show (are you confusing him with Bob Jenkins? I hope not).

OK, not at the helm, but in the pits, post-race interviews, in fluff
pieces, whatever, I liked his work on the old networks. His voice was
often there somewhere, if not in the booth - and it's never bothered
me.

For clarity, the sigh was for this: '...and the three will be integrated
with the booth team during race telecasts.' I've had trouble accepting 3 in
the main broadcast booth (2 could do it) and I see *no* reason to mix
another 3 with them...too many talking heads!

He was good in the pits with John Kernan. But 3 or 4 hours is too
long to listen to him.

I'm pretty sure Punch has only worked for ESPN (he did football and
some other stick & ball stuff when ESPN lost the NASCAR deal).

But I agree with you, he was excellent. But his forte is as a
pit reporter or sideline man, he doesn't have the ability to
carry a broadcast as a lead announcer. I don't fault him for
wanting to try, or ESPN for giving him the opportunity. But at
some point they should realize that they don't have a good
match.

And a whole new generation will have a Jarrett in the booth. If Dale is

he aint, and has no business being on tv.

Per Jayski this am...*maybe* ESPN heard us. Rather than just copy/paste
a la Alan (and, recently, Hammer) I put this in 9 bullet points...my

4. Allen Bestwick moves into the fulltime role of host of ESPN's race
telecasts and host of NASCAR Countdown. [Buh-bye Brent and Suzy?!? We
can hope.]
Brent and Suzy are over-the-top disgusting to listen to. They make Rusty
look good.

7. Shannon Spake, a reporter for ESPN's studio programs and fill-in pit
reporter last year, will take Bestwick's position as a fulltime pit
reporter, joined by returnees Dave Burns, Jamie Little and Mike Massaro.
[Not as strong as FOX's pit folks, but Allen deserves the move.]
Shannon is totally hot and has a voice that would soothe a charging Rhino.
They should put her in the booth.

I have to agree. He's really annoying to listen to because he just
drones on and on and says something interesting about once every five
minutes. He also doesn't have much variation in the tone of his
voice, which makes it really boring.

I liked Kyle Petty in the booth. He gets to the point quickly and has
a refreshing take on the action. He isn't afraid to call it like he
sees it when it's called for.

Valid "complaint" IMO. But if whatever 3 they do use can mesh, and not
talk all over one another, it is acceptable most days.
