Default Carl vs Jr ??? - 05-08-2009 , 09:28 PM

http://www.nascar.com/2009/news/headlines/cup/05/08/happy.hour.darlington/index.html

"
Dale Earnhardt Jr., who was 21st on the speed chart in final practice,
struggled with his setup and said the reason for so many scrapes and
spins was because "the tire is real hard" and "is slick."
"
....

"
The pain in Carl Edwards' arms while driving in both practice
sessions reminded him of just how tough the track is and just how much
it has changed since the re-paving project was completed in 2008.

"I was driving through Turns 1 and 2 and I noticed my forearms hurt
because I was squeezing the wheel so tight," Edwards said. "This place
is very fast and very treacherous now that they've re-paved it.
There's not much forgiveness at this place because it's so fast and
there's so much grip."
"

Are they on the same track?

LOL. I think what Edwards is getting at is that the bit with
grip, where you can go very fast, is very very narrow, and you
have to be right on top of the wheel to stay in it.

Jr's point is that if you're not on top of the wheel, and get
out of the very very narrow groove, the rest of the track is
slick and the tires give you no help in saving it.

Hidden in that might be some of the reason why Edwards is
running better than Jr.
