Collusion Why have every track owner's purses only increased by $100K over 2006? Is it collusion amongst them? Or does it have something to do with the 8 yr agreement between N and ESPN, FOX? There oughtta be another investigation into N's Dictatorship. -- Crusader |

You didn't mention how much more money the track owners get over last year? |

Yes but controlling the production and all the elements to prevent competition can be. IF Nascar was just a sanctioning body you might have a point, but it isn't. Nascar is the France family, and the controlling interest in a publicly traded company has one Lessa France Kennedy as a majority share holder in International Speedway Corporation that owns most of the major tracks in the country. Nascar also controls most of the development series that a driver must progress through for the most part to get to cup. The Trucks, Busch and more importantly the Nascar Weekly Racing series at all the local short tracks puts a fairly strong hold on competition. Add to that Nascar owns CASCAR, the Canadian stock car racing series. The other stock car racing series are also heavily reliant on the Frances. ARCA races on Nascar tracks on Nascar weekends. Do you really think they can push Nascar? The old industrial revolution giants of industry got rid of competition by simply just controlling the means so that another company has not chance to compete. A coal or oil company would not only buy the mines or wells, they bought the railroads that got the product to market. If another company tried to mine or drill in the area they found no way to get their product to market. IF they did, they often found their their competition had bought out the distributor and effectively had control of the industry from the raw material stage to finished product. That make it impossible for a competing company to effectively enter the market. I think an argument could be made that Nascar could easily be in exactly the same position. |
