Any comparison is without foundation or merit. It's like comparing Babe Ruth
with Hank Aaron. Both have their place in the time line, but it was two
different eras. Earnhardt's point in time just happened to overlap with
Gordon's.

You never saw DE Sr in a COT, but then again you never saw JG in a 1980's
Winston Cup Monte Carlo either.

That is exactly what the guy says.

In article <sPPWh.986$A72.961@trnddc07>, pe2 (AT) dalejrfan (DOT) net says...

There is no comparison. It took Senior almost 200 more races and 8 years to
win the same number of races that JG already has. And the competition in
NASCAR is much greater in the last 10 years than it was 20-30 years ago.

And Dale Sr won 7 championships in 15 yrs. And his first was in a POS
car. Not to mention that Sr didn't have the luxury of a 4-5 car stable
to share information, or a brilliant CC to hold his hand like JG did.

Apples and Oranges.

BTW, Sr had plenty of competition back then. Look it up.

Actually, the best way to compare is to take the time that both were on the
track together and compare the results then, any other is pure conjecture
and speculation since the money, competition and nearly everything else was
indeed different.
Some of the backmarkers like Jimmy Means and ones whose cars came out of the
backyard garage who raced against Earnhardt when he was winning have all but
disappeared due to the $cost of racing today.

You can't even look at it that way, because they were at different
points/stages in their careers.

Apples and oranges.
