UPDATE: NASCAR sent a memo to Sprint Cup teams this week putting a limit on the amount of rear adjustment being made to create more sideforce. The adjustment basically has the back tires turned to the right with a rear toe adjustment, allowing the car to enter the turns with more speed. It's not visibly noticeable on the turns, but on the straightaways the car appears to be crabbing down the track sideways. Darby said teams have been adjusting the rear end in excess of two degrees. NASCAR limited the adjustment to one degree.(ESPN.com)m this rule takes effect as of the race at Dover next weekend.(5-22-2008) http://www.jayski.com/cupnews.htm I had to restart this thread due to this new ruling. Quite frankly, I think it's a bunch of crap. No surprise that the rule got changed once Jeff Gordon complained. Anyone wanna bet that a Hendrick car wins at Dover? |

At some point aerodynamic drag will slow the cars beyond the point where "crabbing" is an advantage. NASCAR has already dictated that everyone use EXACTLY the same car. As long as the NASCAR-approved parts are used, why not be allowed to get the most out of a car? Because the car can't be driven correctly onto the inspection ramps anymore?........... Is that required by the rule book? |

Is that required by the rule book? Yes. To be more accurate, you're required to present your car for inspection, whereever or however NASCAR finds it to be convenient (so if NASCAR wanted to do it at the bottom of a swimming pool, you'd have to figure out a way to get the car there). Is that required by the rule book? It is, in that the car must pass inspection before going out on the track. If they can't get the car onto the ramps, it can't be inspected. Just heard Kyle Petty say that they (Penske, Roush, etc) would jackup the rear of the car to get it to fit correctly. So they were getting the car onto the ramp, but only half of the car was being driven onto the ramp. So until someone presents a rulebook............. |
