FOX25 Exclusive: Dale Earnhardt Jr. to Join Richard Childress Racing

You may not find this news to be a big deal locally, but it is
nationally.

NASCAR's Dale Earnhardt Jr. will soon be racing under the same
legendary #3 Chevy that his dad used to race in.

A source with direct knowledge of negotiations tells FOX25 that Dale
Earnhardt Jr. has finalized a deal with Richard Childress Racing Thursday
night and an official announcement will be coming soon.

What this means is that Dale Jr., NASCAR's most popular driver and one of
the highest paid athletes in the world will now partner up with Richard
Childress, the same man who Dale Earnhardt Sr. starting driving for in 1981.
At a press conference today to announce that he was leaving the company his
late dad built, Dale Jr. said he would have mixed emotions about driving his
dad's #3 Chevy, but again, FOX25 has learned that this is a done deal.

Hummmm...I recollect when I was still in the work-a-day world that it was
considered wise not to reveal to your present employer that you were leaving a job
until you had secured the next position.

I noted elsewhere that there is a presser scheduled for tomorrow morning by
Richard Childress.

It would seem appropriate that an announcement of a new driver signing would be
presented by the owner involved, rather than by the driver.

If, in fact, this is a 'done deal'...I'm even *more* impressed by the way Junior
and Kelley have handled this entire situation!

As early as a day after announcing he would leave Dale Earnhardt Inc.
at the end of the year, Dale Earnhardt Jr. could announce that he will
join Richard Childress Racing in 2008, according to FOX8 WGHP in
Greensboro/High Point, N.C.

Childress has scheduled a news conference Friday at Darlington
Raceway, site of the Nextel Cup Dodge Avenger 500 (Saturday, 7 p.m. ET
on FOX).

Rather than drive the No. 3 car that his father, Dale Earnhardt, made
famous for RCR, Earnhardt Jr. would drive the No. 33 car, according to
the report. Budweiser would follow Junior from DEI to the new team

Steve Byrnes just opened Speed's Cup practice show with reports from both RCR and
JRM that Richard's presser today will *not* be an announcement of signing Junior.

Perhaps an announcement that Junior will NOT be signing with them...

Best guess?
Most likely scenario?
Junior will be with Junior next year.....

For that comment, I have to resurrect "Meat Boy." LOL. In other
words, I think you are way wrong. If I lose, I'll quit calling you
"Meat Boy."

Nah. RC won't say no to anything right now, just like he won't say yes
either. RC's got the dilemma tho: He knows that Junior would be a
great fit for HIM and RCR, but what about keeping Happy happy? JB the
Veteran? and the other alcoholic beverage that sponsors Bowyer's car
since Bud will likely roll in with Junior?...THOSE are the issues that
need addressing in RC's house before they can strike a deal.

I donut think so. He may go totally outside the realm of current
inuendo (RCR, JGR) and land somewhere else, but I just don't think
that he or Kelley want to field a Cup team out of JRM just yet.
They've only got ¼ the staff of MWR, and we see how that's going.
Plus, he'd then be at the VERY BOTTOM of the factory support chain
from Chevy behind HMS, JGR, RCR, DEI, Ginn, Hass CNC, etc...None of
those add up to a desirable result for him or his team if he were to
prcoeed. Why then, worry about getting into a good situation at age
32, just to get into a situation that you almost KNOW would take 5-10
years to build up into a title contending team? It doesn't compute and
is why I think he's off to another existing Cup owner's stable. I
genuinely think he wants to be like Jeff Gordon, JJ, TS, and all these
other successful Cup drivers that basically JUST DRIVE and don't worry
about the blending of family and business like Junior's had to do
since 2/19/2001 (the day after).

Honestly, I think he already has a new team, and they are all being
real quiet about it until it all gets sorted out and the deal
actually signed, and the ink dry. I just didn't hear the concern in
his voice, or see it on his face, of a man that was incredibly unsure
of his future.
