Sad, but given his weight issues, I'm not surprised.

Yeah, heard that about 3:30 today from a friend that's sort of in the
business...thought it a sick joke until I saw it on several websites
(Charlotte Observer, NASCAR.com) immediately thereafter.

I didn't always agree with David, but damn, would've never wished the
guy dead. Felt really wierd learning the news after just hearing about
3 hours of his radio show this morning where he was passionately
defending his position that Talladega was too unsafe to race on and
needed a major change. His idea was to knock down one end of the
banking...or the whole track...and start over.

I had really grown fond of his morning show (with Mike Bagley) on
Sirius: "The Morning Drive". Won't be nearly the same without him,
certainly not for a long time anyway.

R.I.P. D-Pizzle...condolences to his family and friends. At least you
went out at home - The Shady Rest as he referred to it on his and the
Bagman's' show - and didn't back down from a single kook caller over
the past couple of days when taken to task on your feelings about
Dega.

That's what I thought when I first saw a picture of him.

Glad to hear ya testify Sim, since we had differing opinions
about David. Of course u had the advantage of being able to
listen to him regularly. I'm gonna miss his contributions to
the 'Nascar scene'.

I agree 100% with his position, but after thinking for a while, I
don't think that solution would work, unless you kept the cars in
the 400HP range (either with a plate or a small motor).

The problem with that idea and unrestricted Cup engines is, that
cars would be entering the braking zone for the flat corner at
235-240 mph, and trying to slow to maybe 160 for the corner. The
risk of someone being unable to slow (brake failure, cut tire,
etc - think of how many times we've seen someone go straight to
the wall at places like Charlotte) from 240mph into a flat corner
is just too high.

With a 400HP motor, they'd probably peak at right around 200 at
the braking zone, which would be much like Indy or Pocono.

Myself, tho, I favor the knock the whole thing down and start
over, preferably with a 5/8ths or 3/4 mile track.

John

Yeah, I didn't care for his opinions at the beginning, for a long
time...but his appearances on Pit Bulls started to turn me, and his
radio show (where he didn't have to be brief and could lay his entire
thought process out there) made me a fan. Still didn't agree with him
100%, maybe not even 90% of the time, but I had come to respect his
opinions nonetheless.
