(From what I've heard, "They're Off! comes from the days before things like track announcers, when the crowd yelled it when the race began.) I grew up in NYC, and when my pop took me to Aqueduct Raceway or Belmont Park (most weekends), they always said "and they're off". I have never been to any other horse tracks in my life; so I have no idea what is said in other places. |
