Evertime JJ, GB or KK raced by you would hear a sonic POP. I have never
heard that before. The other cars would not make this sound no matter how
fast they were going. It was as if the sound barrier was broken as they went
by. I know this is impossible but what the hell was I hearing? Other people
around me noticed it too.

If it happened in the breaking area before the corner, it might have
been the blow-by that happens when the throttle is closed. The exhaust
exits the car on the right side, toward the outside of the turn, and
burns in the hot pipe.

If that is the cause of the noise, I wonder if that indicates those cars
were running richer than most others? (meaning more gas igniting in the
exhaust) 2 of them ran out and the other lost out in the fuel battle.
