I am a bit confused. Mark Martin is 15th in driver points, but Regan Smith,
who is driving for him Sunday is listed in 10th place in owner points.

Mark Martin sat out some races and somebody else drove the car and scored
some points. So all of the points added up for that car number, regardless
of driver, equal tenth place.

The value of the car number in the standings and a lot of other things is
why DEI cannot just give the number 8 to Junior as a parting gift. The car
number has a very significant value. And nothing is any more significant
than getting into the race.

Not the car number but the actual team. A race team can change
numbers and keep their points. That is why DEI's former #15
team was phased out and Paul Menard moved to the #14 team and
changed the number to #15.
