Default DW's thoughts on the Chase.... - 09-10-2006 , 08:05 PM

i'd like to add that i think if NASCAR wants to add some kind of wild card
to the mix, they should consider something along the lines of what the
WInston Million use to offer. if you can win 3 of 5 certain races, then you
would have won a shot of racing for the Championship. bonus money can also
be awarded to the driver for winning those 3 particular races. if you won
those 3 races, you would not pass anyone in the standings to be elevated to
a T-10 spot, but of you out raced all the contenders in the T-10 you would
be crowned the champ. Example: if a driver is 13th in points and wins 3 of
the 5 races, he would stay in 13th, but would be 50 points behind the 1st
place driver who has 0 points when they are reset. the driver who is in
13th can pass 12th and 11th if he is not too far behind and can make up
ground in points, but if he doesn't out score all the drivers in the T-10 he
doesn't win 2nd or any other T-10 spot unless after all the racesa are over
he actually pasases them in actual drivers points. so it's pretty much an
all or nothing proposition. either win the cahmpionship or end up where you
stand in the points.

each year, the races can be mixed up to different tracks to make it more
interesting.

He really shouldn't think, it never comes to any good.
Yeah thats way to complicated for a wild card. If you want a wild card it
should be the driver with the most wins who's not already in the chase,
usual tie breakers would apply. This would put enormous value on winning
races!

what's so complicated about it? where in the chase would a driver with the
most wins who's not in it be ranked? would he skip over all the other
drivers?

Wild cards would always be in the last place so if ten drivers made it in
the wild card would get the 11th spot. If 11 drivers made it in(the 400
point rule) then the wild card would be in the 12th spot. Such a scheme
would reward consistency but also the winning of races. It would also mean
that every single driver would still technically be in the hunt until the
last 3 or 4 races and some drivers would still be in the hunt until the very
last race!
