First you'd have to convince me that the physical part is what makes a great driver, instead of the ability to natually analyze the physics of high-speed motion and predict moves several seconds in advance, and then make split-second decisions based upon the results of those analyses. IOW, a great NASCAR driver IMO is a guy who can sit nearly motionless for hours at a time, making miniscule motions to change velocity based upon a constantly changing environment: a chess player at 212 mph. But not an "athelete" by any stretch of the word. They are on the same level as test pilots and astronauts. Always "pushing the envelope" and knowing that one mistake, or mechanical glitch could be their last. Unlike racers, "athletes" don't need to worry that they might die before the game is over. |

Hey - "4-X champ"...Forex Champ - that's a pretty cool handle! How long have you been trading on the Forex? And what currency do you like to trade the most? Personally, I like the Pound a lot! The Euro's just too illiquid for my taste, know what I mean? So can you share some of your secrets? I'd love to hear how you won the Forex trading championship 4 times! And how did you get robbed of the 5th? Was it poor execution and slippage? Or did you just get jammed on the overnights? AAR, what do you think of the Franc spreads these days? Hehe...... I saw that "easy money" snake oil infomercial. Glad to hear you're one of their satisfied suckers...... err, customers. ;-) |

[winnard (8track1NO (AT) SPAMcox (DOT) net)] [Fri, 3 Dec 2004 17:31:26 -0600] : Finally, a really heartfelt truthful biography of a star athlete. Dale Earnhardt was a great racer, but he was not an athlete. Athlete (n.) - A person possessing the natural or acquired traits, such as strength, agility, and endurance, that are necessary for physical exercise or sports, especially those performed in competitive contexts --------------- Dale Earnhardt had amazing strength to drive a racecar at very fast speeds. Obviously, races that are hundred's of miles long requires a great amount of endurance. And Nascar is the most competitive sport I can think of. Any given Sunday, one driver wins, 42 lose. Nascar is an amazing sport with amazing athletes. Some may argue at Nascar's "boringness". But you have to drive your heart out every lap to win a race. But those drivers are athletes that perform amazing feats that deserve respect. Period. Very well said. People that don't understand any sport cannot appreciate that sport. DEIfan as a former Wrestler (real type not Pro) when you look into you opponent's eyes and shake his hand, the competition begins. one on one, only person out there to blame for losing is yourself, not the car, or some other guy, but yourself. THAT is true competition. but then again ESPN thinks Bowling and fishing and Poker are Sports now too... Hey Mr. Wrestler, I have one question for you. Could you wrestle every week |

That's really hitting below the belt. Ouch... ;-) |
