First race is the Budweiser Shootout - 8:00 p.m. pre-race; race at 8:30 p.m., on TNT cable channel. The times given are EST. This is a no-points race. Doesn't the Shootout set the lineup for the twin Gatorades? The below is from USA Today: |
|
"Practice begins Friday for the Budweiser Shootout. Pole qualifying for the 500 will take place Sunday, locking down the top two starting spots. "The rest of the 43-car field will be set by the Gatorade Duel 150-mile qualifying races Feb. 16. [shouldn't this be "dual?"] "Saturday night's Shootout, a 70-lap event open to last year's pole winners and past winners of the race, should offer a preview of favorites for next weekend's main event. "The 21-car field will include the last three Daytona 500 winners - Jeff Gordon, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Michael Waltrip - as well as defending series champion Tony Stewart. "'I said a couple of years ago this race is like a bar fight on four wheels,' said Earnhardt, who won the Shootout in 2003. "'I'm pretty sure when it comes to partying and raising hell, I run harder than any of these guys, so this race suits my style.'" Carey in Manvel |

Doesn't the Shootout set the lineup for the twin Gatorades? The below is from USA Today: Nope. The shoot out is a "stand alone" event, comprised of last year's pole winners. Time Trials set up the Gatorades, with the two fastest cars guaranteed to start on the front row. The rest start based on how they finish their respective Gatorade. Oops, I should have read down further. |
