He must have forgot that Kenny Wallace is in a Bill Davis car.

OK... if JG had stayed in a Bill Davis car do you think he would have been
successful? not AS successful as he's been, but win a championship or
two?...

Nope. A great driver can't overcome *everything*. Let's start with the
assumption that JG couldn't be competitive with a street legal Monte Carlo
and work up. At what point in the progression WOULD he be competitive? At
what point would he win a race or two, at what point (progressing through
the different teams) could he equal his career?

THEN factor in what having a JG as a driver would do to elevate the team?
Would BD have been able to leverage a JG in sponsorship $ and use his talent
to build an entire organization around him like RH has? And would that $
have allowed JG to match the success he'd achieved with HMS?

*I think* few owners could have leveraged a JG to the extent that Hendrick
has. JG would have won a few races at BD but not gotten to the level of
winning a championship. It takes a super talented driver and a visionary
owner to make the total greater than the sum of the parts.

That's exactly right...one must remember that Hendrick put everything he had
behind JG for a long time. In my opinion, not only did he put everything
behind JG, but in doing so he neglected the rest of his organization. Look
at Terry Labonte - don't you think he could / could have done a lot more
with enough support from Hendrick and his organization? He just won a
race - you know he still has it in him. But do you hear much about him?
No, because JG has always had all the attention of HMS.

A very good driver with one of the best funded efforts over the past 10
years. This also included a very good crew chief and tightly run operation
all around.
