Default gas tanks - 02-27-2006 , 04:37 AM

Why do they use different size gas tanks at different tracks?

They use smaller (around 13 gallons) fuel tanks at Daytona and Talladega to
break up the long freight trains of cars with more pit stops.

Well, that is the theory, anyway. That rule is, what, three years old now?
Or is it four. Hard to remember at my age.

The smaller tank at Dytona is supposed to make them pit more often,
hopefully to break up the big pack of cars. But with all the stops
under yellow, it didn't do much. With green flag stops, it does break
them up for awhile.

How many tracks are left that the tires last through a fuel run??

Expect to see small tanks at more tracks. With Goodyear demonstrating their
total inability to construct a decent race tire, Nascar will reduce the fuel
tank size to create more frequent tire changes and reduce the number of tire
failures, with a by-product of the rule being increased tire sales for
Goodyear.

Can you say "kickbacks"? I knew you could.

Seems to me the smaller tanks began in the 2002 season. I am in that hard
to remember age too.

Age??? Why we talkin' 'bout age? Oh - was this the conversation where we
were talking about how as we get older the woodies seem to last for days on
end? How we can't seem to do it three or four times a night anymore because
after the first 4 hour long "encounter" we find we need a little nap, and
just can't jump right back into the saddle twenty minutes later? Yeah, it
sucks getting old, don't it?
