Default Green/White/Checkers on RP Track?! - 02-19-2006 , 06:33 PM

Ridiculous.

Why didn't they red flag the race w/4 laps to go and the #26 in the wall?
Or, just screw the GWC on plate tracks - it's ridiculous to think anything
meaningful can happen on a plate track restart w/2 laps to go, unless of
course you count crashes as meaningful.

Nascar has succeeded in turning an already boring product (plate racing)
into an even more boring product. Just glad I didn't lay out the ridiculous
$$ to actually go to the race.

Fans don't like those finishes. So Herr Helton fixed it.

Why don't they just go back to what they did for 50 years of the sport's
history ... if the race ends under caution, it ends under caution and
everybody gets up and goes home?

Minimum length of a yellow is 3 laps (one to get the cars lined up in order,
1 for quickie pitstops allowing all cars to pit if they want and 1 for a 1
to go signal.)

So if they had red flaged it, you would still have gotten 3 yellow laps and
just 1 green flag lap.

GWC at least gave you 1 3/4 laps of green flag racing to the end.

Where have you been?

This all changed after the #24 beat the #8 at 'Dega under caution & it
turned into a White Trash riot & it rained Bud cans on the track.

I was right here, on this forum, saying that IMHO fans were not inherently
entitled to a green-flag finish simply because they bought a ticket to a
race, and that trying to curry favor with the idiots who threw stuff on the
track by going to something contrived like a green/white/checker setup was
going to end up at the least causing more trouble than it was worth and at
worst maybe getting somebody killed.

Nascar created the whole situation when they started using GWC in the truck
series. Stands to reason that Cup fans would be clamoring for it eventually.

I agree. It opened a can of worms and contributed even more to this stuff
being more of a "show" than a race.

I never jumped up and down and cheered if a race ended under caution, but I
always accepted it as an inherent risk in holding a race and by no means the
worst thing that ever happened on the planet earth.

And 2001 didn't end under green flag conditions, Waltrip took the

In 2001 they used to race back to the yellow.
