While I understand it seems silly when there's rain all around the track, sometimes, there's a window where you might be able to get the race in. And having the cars out on the track dries the surface much faster than the jet driers alone. Putting the cars out on the track under a yellow flag condition allows the track to get dry faster, and thus allow racing faster. Therefore, it may make the difference between being able to run the race the day it was scheduled, or having to delay the race to the next day. |

While for us watching on TV, it doesn't really make a difference, as a fan at the track, I'd rather sit through some caution laps at the start to catch at least half the race, than to make the trip through all that traffic just to get a raincheck. |

Besides, green/yellow starts were the norm before jet dryers--they're nowhere near as common as they once were. Remember the 1979 Daytona 500, the one that the Allisons and Yarborough fought at? It started green/yellow. |

The jet dryers can do a much better job. |

Caution starts would be one thing, but dropping the green with the caution is just foolish. It serves no purpose at all. |

So your objection is just on the fact that they wave the green flag along with the yellow flag at the start? What a petty objection. |
