Default Greenville, Alabama - Red Neck Central - 12-31-2004 , 12:07 AM

I guess that NASCAR will take backseat to the Sugar Bowl this weekend.
Will be stopping at the town with the most red necks in the country,
Greenville, Alabama on my way to the 'Big Easy'. Never seen so many run
down houses and 'Cash to Go' joints in all of my life. See that they got
2 Korean plants to supply Hyundai Motors. They probably will not be in
operation more than 5 years. Bet the small town has gone way off on the
limb to get them.

Know what you mean about Greenville, Alabama. I've been through there too.
Not much to the place. They usually have the highest priced gas between
Montgomery and Mobile.

Typical "rice burner" mentality here?? Half of The South does
work directly or indirectly for building TOYOTAS, have been for
decades. There's no reason in the world why Hyundi can't make
a go if it here. Do you have a chip on your shoulder about
them "fer-e-ners" ($1 Archie Bunker) being in out country?

My wife's name is Meji and she is from Kitakyushu, Kyushu, Japan. I met
her while working for the Peace Corp. in the Sudan. No, I am not a rice
burner and neither is she.
The number of individuals working for Toyota must be in the millions
then for the southern part of the U.S. I find that hard to believe.
There's no reason in the world why Hyundai can't make a go of it here,
are almost the exact words that appeared in a Canadian newspaper when
Hyundai started a failed automobile assembly operation in Bromont,
Canada some years back.
I do not know what fer-e-ners may be, but do know that foreigners were
the owners of two of the plants that I have worked for (Zeiss and NEC-
Nippon Electric Corp.). No, I do not identify with Archie Bunker,
instead I identify with Carroll O' Connor and Jophn Kenneth Galbraith.
Wishing all a Happy New year, especially those in the Amherst, MA area.

And that differs from every other Alabama town how?
