The fans just want to empathize with the anguish Dale's feeling, so they
keep torturing themselves over and over by rehashing his self-inflicted
death. It's pointless, but they just want to share in his experience..
in this case, in some small way, in his agony.

It's pretty hot down there, you know.

Wrong. NASCAR gets good marketing mileage out of keeping DE around long
after he died.

As long as the fans keep falling for it, NASCAR keeps raking in the
extra $$.
