Default Harvick asks out of remaining contract year with RCR... - 07-14-2009 , 09:45 PM

It seems all roads are leading to Stewart-Haas Racing these days.

Kevin Harvick has told Richard Childress he would like to leave after
this season, according to multiple sources. Harvick has one year
remaining on his contract with RCR, but the Shell/Pennzoil sponsorship
deal on the No. 29 ends at the end of this season, and Harvick is
trying to move with it to Stewart-Haas.

Tony Stewart has said his team is interested in running a third car in
Sprint Cup in 2010. Adding Harvick in a package with a strong sponsor
would be a masterstroke.

Childress is in a tough spot. He could hold Harvick to the contract
and try to re-sign Shell/Pennzoil, but in a performance-based
business, the Stewart-Haas option, undoubtedly, is more appealing to
the gas and oil company. If Shell/Penzoil decides to leave, Childress
has to find $15 million to $20 million in sponsorship to replace it --
a very difficult prospect in this economy.

Forget all the benefits of Penzoil/Shell, whatever happened to
commitment. When you sign a contract you need to live up to that
contract obligation, both parties.

This is just another instance of individual who are not satisfied with
their current situation wanting to move to another environment where
they think they can do better.

Here is a thought, how about first making the best of your current
contract obligation and then think about moving on after that?

The grass is not necessarily greener on the other side of the fence.
However, in the case of Tony Stewart having the green thumb, it just
might be. But first, live up to your contractual obligations, you set
no precedence for those younger people who follow you.

Some of you drivers are no better than roller derby skaters.
There's nothing wrong with Harvick asking to be released from the final year
of his contract. And there would be nothing wrong with Childress holding him
to it. It's called negotiating, and Harvick is just making a request. RCR
holds most of the cards.

And quite frankly, Harvick is probably a better driver than his performances
in Childress' A-minus equipment show him to be. His struggles at RCR are
much like Newman's struggles at Penske.

hey i'm from ottawa, canada and i doubt many of you follow nhl hockey
but for those that have can i say dany heatley? this guy signs a 6
year contract worth some 7 mil a year (alot in hockey, btw, the max
salary is 10 mil) and in the contract specifically asks for a no-trade
clause, fair enough he's the purest goal scorer my ottawa senators
have ever had, scoring some 139 goals over the 3 seasons he's been
here (3rd most in the league over those 3 years), and as a thank you
for his contribution he gets a no trade clause. then in june what does
he do? one year into his 6 year contract he asks to be traded...but he
has a no trade clause so he can veto any potential trade to a team he
does not like. ottawa tries to send him to edmonton for a bunch of
young guys with lots of potential and he shoots it down. so we now sit
with a disgruntled multi-millionaire only a month away from training
camp.

but specifically in the harvick situation, this isn't as bad. sure it
would be nice for people to live out the full length of their
contracts but sometimes situations change. Harvick has done so much in
a short time in Cup, think of the situation in which he came into cup
and how he handled that. harvick is certainly a much better driver
than RCR's equipment shows him to be, sitting in 25th place (similar
as someone said to newman @penske, but also montoya @ EGR, vickers
@RBR and truex @ EGR, though all these drivers are ahead of harvick in
what is lesser equipment than RCR's) clearly RCR has dropped in
performance, burton has been talking since daytona 500 about how their
cars handle fine, but they simply lack the raw speed of HMS, JGR or
RFR. though Childress holds most of the cards in this situation, i
can't imagine a driver putting a full effort in if he's forced to come
back; same as no one expects heatley to score 50 goals for us as he
has twice in 3 seasons if he's forced to play for ottawa...

NASCAR has never legalized the use of A-Rods in the Sprint Cup level.
A couple of Formula One teams still use them.
