Why do you think NASCAR has anything to do with there being
no #3 out there??

Two questions....

Why must they run the #3.
God only knows why "nobody" thinks they have to.

NASCAR assigns the numbers. They are apparently happy to let
Childress retain the number without using it. I don't beleive
anyone else has asked for the number (unlike here, Childress is
highly respected by his peers).

Why not run the #3?
It's generally thought that Childress is saving the number (which
was his number as a driver) for his grandson Austin Dillon.

John
"Saving it" with regard to it's use in NASCAR...
He is already running the black "Earnhardt #3" car in the dirt latemodels..
I think it's as much Richard's number as Dale's, so I'd be happy to see him
use it when ever he sees fit.

I know if I had a chance to run NASCAR, and they asked what I'd think
about running #3, I'd have to say...
You got another number you can use first??

Because Nascar has final say on who gets what number

BTW, has anyone asked Junior Johnson? It was his number as a driver. I
think he was around
long before Dale.

It's much like other sports that retire a number. How about Lou
Gehrig??? I doubt that the PLAYERS would be willing to bring that
number back. Same thing here....do you actually think that there are
any drivers out there that are going to be WILLING to drive the Black
Number Three????
The RCR black GM Goodwrench #3 was driven at the Goodwood Festival last
week. The driver was Taylor Earnhardt.

I'm fully aware of that.
But the OP asked why NASCAR was letting Childress keep
the number off the track.
I said, why do you think NASCAR is letting him keep it off?
How do you know that anybody has asked for it, in other words....

The fact that #3 is not out there, doesn't mean NASCAR is doing
anything. Unless someone can point to a team being REFUSED the number,
then how can you even include NASCAR in the discussion.
It's strictly a matter of no one asking for it.
There are plenty of numbers not currently being used.
The #3 happens to be one.

76th win car with a new paint job, IF it was the actual car.

I liked it better with the scraps on the passenger side and the donut on
the drivers side.

Why does RC *need* to run the #3?
That's the only way he'll get a sponsor.
