Default He has got to go. - 06-18-2006 , 06:36 PM

I have had all of Jeff Gordon's crew chief that I can stand. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to se that that man has no idea what he is doing. Here is my reasoning.

It's right at the half way point ( Somewhere past the 90 lap mark. ) in the Michigan race. Everybody knows that the rain is coming. One of the announcers even stated that the rain is only 15 miles away and coming. Jeff is near the front of the race and has a fast car. What does the crew chief do. He calls for 4 tires and gas. This assures that Jeff will be somewhere in the top 10 at best. It turns out to be 8th. The cars who take gas and two tires get off pit road ahead of him. SURPRISE, guess who wins the fucking race. One of those cars. I guess Jeff's crew chief has never heard the words "TRACK POSITION!!!!!!" To make matters worse he does it two straight cautions in a row, all within the last 40 or so laps. I can't remember exactly what lap it was. But I do know that there was two separate cautions towards what turned out to be the end of the race.

With decisions like this Jeff doesn't stand a chance to make the chase. Jeff cannot do it all by himself regardless of how good he is. It takes a TEAM effort.

A thoroughly pissed off Gordon fan.

Hmmm, so your thinking is that Jeff had no say-so in the decision?

Worse is that he never gains positions on pit road any more - he
always, ALWAYS loses position(s). That pit crew needs to be jacked up.
They can't compete in the pit crew competitions because of sponsor
conflicts, so Hendrick should think of some other incentive for them,
if they can't do their jobs for the love of the racing.

Newsflash, Robbie Loomis is no longer the crew chief.

I was thinking how many more crew chiefs does he have to go through to
figure out he doesn't have the "right stuff". And I'm a DJ fan and I
understand the same thing from my driver. He doesn't have it anymore.
Let go. Jeff's best years are way behind him.

Not necessarily but Jeff in his hey day didn't try to tell Ray what
adjustments to make. He would tell Ray what the car is doing and Ray made
the calls as to what to do with the car.

Now you hear Jeff giving input on what to do with the car as well as what
the car is doing. If a driver asked for an adjustment, he ususally is going
to get it. That would be compounded when its a veteren driver and a new
crew chief. Jeff could be asking for adjustments that aren't working
instead of letting the crew chief decide the adjustments needed.
Where do "you hear Jeff giving input on what to do with the car?"
Everything I've heard the lad say in interviews is the opposite - he
says what the car is doing, and Letarte is making what he thinks are
the appropriate adjustments. As a matter of fact, I believe I've heard
Jeff's theory on drivers like Rusty Wallace, for example, and how their
style is anything Jeff wants to emulate -- i.e., he doesn't want to say
what adjustments to make, because he isn't that engineering-savvy, and
he just wants to count on the crew chief to do what needs to be done.
The last I heard, anyway.
