Helton Quote
I must have missed this on Ndotcom but it appears Mike Helton
slipped up in his PC-ness:
ThatsRacin.com | 02/16/2006 | Can NASCAR grow and keep its roots?
`Southeastern rednecks' characterization raises ire
By PETER ST. ONGE The Charlotte Observer
http://www.thatsracin.com/mld/thatsracin/13886931.htm
"We believe strongly that the old Southeastern redneck heritage
that we had is no longer in existence."
The comment kicked up a storm from Southern racing fans,
some of whom wondered if NASCAR had finally crossed a threshold -- from taking
its devotees for granted to publicly being embarrassed by them.
"Believe me, if it weren't for us rednecks, NASCAR would not be where it is today,"
said Ruth Payne, a race fan for five decades from Greer, S.C. "NASCAR has become too
commercialized for this redneck, so I will just keep my redneck butt home."
CRU:
I suspected this attitude from NA$CAr for quite some time, but suggest
it's out of the box now. Major Racin' Media dropped the ball again
by not at least putting out this Helton quote to everyone!
