Default Hendrick cars - 10-06-2009 , 08:54 PM

There never was any doubt, but fyi, the Hendrick cars
all passed inspection.

The only teams, that I know of, that have had illegal
cars in the chase are the #16 Ford and the #18 Toy.

Then why did Darby tell them not to bring them back?

“There was no room to breathe,” Sprint Cup director John Darby said.

The cars were legal, right? Then why would they be told not to bring them
back if they were legal? If the teams choose to run on the edge of the
tolerance, that's their business, and it's none of Darby's business as long
as the cars pass tech.

I think the 48 was out of tolerance like we first heard, and that's why they
were told not to bring them back.

Think what you want to, but the cars were, and are, legal.
The 48 team hasn't been penalized since the spring of 07.
JJ is a 3-time champ and one of the best drivers in cup; they
don't need to cheat. If you drink a shot of whiskey, you'll
make it easier to swallow.

That's a good question. Barely legal is legal.

Taking it too literally.
They would not have DQ'd them if they had brought them back.
They have in the past informed teams that they were
very close, on different things, and that they should give
themselves
more room to breathe.
As in 'don't bring them back, as is, you may not be so lucky'.
Darby said, to the effect, don't stick your head in a guillotine
with someone else holding a lighter to the rope.

"Don't bring it back" makes a lot more sense in the context of "It's out of
spec, but we'll let it slide this time. Don't bring it back."

According to Pete Pistone of CBSSports, the statement
about "not bringing them back" was misreported. Pistone
said, "But the cars were not penalized, were perfectly
legal and Hendrick was never told not to bring them back
to the track."

48 haters are going to believe what they want to.

There wasn't anything illegal about the T-Rex car (#24) back in the
day, but that's another car Nascar said not ever to bring to a track
again.
